Title: Central locking playing up
Post by: Tink on 07 May 2009, 13:59
Hi All,

New here, owned my GTi 8v for 5 years without issue but recently the central locking has stopped working but all of the locks still make noise when the key is turned.

Any ideas for a fix or does it need to go to the garage?

cheers

May not be the right answer, but i had this problem on a clio i owned.  Basically ended up removing the door cars and taking out the lock mechinism.  Used about half a can of WD40 on the locks and it about fixed it.  Just kept opening and shutting the lock with the key, whilst drenching it with WD40.  Worked a treat and fixed the seized parts.  Cheap fix and you can't really go too far wrong, worth a bash.

Tricky one ... If the pump runs when you lock a door but the doors dont lock it could be an air leak.  When you turn the key it will trigger the pump electronicly, then that uses air to pump the locks up and down,  so its all i can think of, usualy with that the pump will run for longer than it should as its not switching off like its supposed to.  Does it ever run on?

I don't mean to hijack the thread but did mk3 golf gti 16v come with remote central locking? or just central locking, as ive got central locking but not a keyfob.  Again sorry for the hijack, its just slightly relevant lol.
