Well i have now owned my golf for a full year now so i thought that coming up to the anniversary of owning it i should add a project thread to the site.

I picked up my golf on the 15th May 2008 for £3600, this was with 72,000 miles on the clock. When i bought the car i couldn't believe i now owned a golf gti, especially a 1.8T. Yet when driving the car home things were beginning to unfold a bad problem. The acceleration was jerky, the car didn't accelerate well and the overall drive was poor.

I couldn't believe it. especially when i has looked over the car with a fine tooth comb, and also test drove it. So i got the car home and i was really pissed off, i rung the guy immediately, his words were " you bought it", my words were, "you f**kin twit".

So anyway i got straight down to a garage and asked what they thought, they immediately said turbo was going   .

At this point i wanted to set the thing on fire, yet this is when i joined this forum, i put out a thread asking for advice, and i finally got replies stating MAF sensor, so i got a new one, put it on........................ , BINGO. Thank f**k for that.

So i began a spending spree on new parts, yet i never realized how far this project would come.

The first things i bought were as follows:

-Forge carbon engine cover
-Carbonio Cai induction kit
-Forge 007p valve
-Weitec 50mm Lowering springs
-RS8 wheels (18")
-Forge 5 piece hosing Kit.

At this point my engine bay and car was beginning to look a little bit better.

Yet i now wanted the overall look of the car to change, so i went out with a good bit of money and decided to make the car into an r32
replica, so i bought the kit and got it sprayed. And WOW did it make a difference to the car!

As everyone knows there are always things that you have to end up replacing that you really don't want to do so things such
as
-waterpump
-cam belt

were all replaced after the kit was put on.

Now that the car was looking a bit more dandy, i wanted a little bit more power, so i booked my car in at a tuning garage near to me for a stage 1 remap, i was really excited about this because i couldn't wait to see the difference that it made, and boy oh boy did it make a difference, the car was now pushing 197bhp. Which was nice figure.

So now that the car was getting to a stage that i wanted we went out on a little photo shoot.

Not the best photos in the world but we wanted to get a nice shot of the cars whilst they were clean.

After the remap i was always concerned about the clutch, and whether or not it would be able to cope with the extra BHP that the car was now pushing. And unfortunately it decided to pop its clogs. SO i decided there was no point in me just replacing the clutch with a standard part, i looked into the VR6 clutch and the g60 flywheel, yet i wanted to go for something a little bit different.
So i decided to buy the ECS STAGE 1 upgrade from awesome gti. this was also with a lightened flywheel. Very expensive for fitting and the the part, but very worth it. The clutch now feels very very responsive.

I was now at a point where the car was pretty quick and looked pretty nice, yet there were certain aspects that i wasnt pleased with. One of these aspects was the interior.

So i decided to pick up a Newsouth Performance boost guage, not cheap but look great how they match the dash, i also picked up some aluminium R32 interior .

I also decided to pick up an arm rest, which i love the comfort of, makes the car feel like a real cruiser again.

The next thing that i wanted to purchase was a splitter, i have seen these a few times and i think that they look awesome especially on a R32 front bumper, so i went down to Seat and picked myself up a Cupra R front splitter, i fitted it and i think it looks really nice, looks like the front end is a lot lower.

For a few weeks i hit a bit of a patch where i was unsure what to do next, yet i went for a bold decision. I had seen this done a few times and i thought it looked amazing on certain coloured cars, silver being one of them. I decided to go for a black roof, some people
may like this mod, some people might not. I think black roofs on golfs look great because the top of the front windscreen is tinted black, so because the roof is black aswell it looks like a glass roof. And is also different which is what i always try and achieve.

Yet although the roof looked stunning, something was missing, i now needed to add something else..... the mirrors. They needed to be black to make this thing work So i began spraying the mirrors in gloss black to get them matching the roof!

This definetely finished it off, but what i also did was i made sure i got a black inside rear view mirror, as they come creamy white as standard, yet now mines black you are unable to see it through the front window!!

The next few mods that i did were only small
-Bora sport gear knob
-Bora vent conversion
-Rear and front Bushes

After another few weeks i wanted to go for something a little bit different, now i know with this mod some people hate them. infact most people do, yet i love them, especially how well it matches the theme of the car!! And this mod ladies and gentleman is the BONNET BRA. now some people think they look , i think they look , so its al down to personal opinion. Yet with my car having black elements it looks smooth i think, especially when the car comes up in your rear view mirror and it looks evil and like its going to eat you. And aswell as that i love how much attention it gets off normal pedestrians, most of them muttering ' what the pissing hell is that"

so here is another photo shoot.

Now at this stage where am i really pleased with the car, as i say, you might not like the look or you might love it, thats car modifying for you, all personal opinion.

I now wanted to begin to seriously work on the engine, i was very close to either picking up a KO4 turbo and doing a turbo change, or perhaps even going down the hybrid route on a K03s, or even possibly a GT28 conversion. Yet i thought how many times has this been done, and how many times do we hear of people doing turbo upgrades, and i felt like i needed to do something different. Something a bit risky, and a little bit expensive.

Sooooooooooooo.........i decided to go for nitrous. Now some of you may have seen my threads and seen how much it was and how things worked, but it cost me just short of £2,000. Now if you want you can pick up a NOS kit for around £500, but you can say good bye to your internals, as the control unit i bought itself is worth more than that alone, and that simply controls how much nitrous is released into the engine.

So here are a few pics.
Dropping the car off at WIZARDS OF NOS
(http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh281/shakeyjake911/IMG_0208.jpg)

INSTALL

THIS SWITCH IS REALLY NICE ITS JUST I TOOK OUT THE INTERIOR TRIM THE DAY BEFORE, SO I MIGHT LOOK A BIT TACKY HERE
(http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh281/shakeyjake911/IMG_0214.jpg)

And what can i say guys, to experience going from 197bhp- to 290bhp. is one of the most insane feelings in the world. The power is very very extreme. And is by the far the best modification that i have done so far, i even got a blue flame with the nitrous on on the way home last week  .

Well guys this is quite a quick brief summary of what i have done so far, yet alot is still to come, such as air ride, forged pistons, so i will keep you all updated, pleased PM me with ideas and thoughts of the car, that would be greatly appreciated. So heres a final photo of how she stands. Thanks again

I dont know who went down on sunday but wow was it good.

It was the VAG2009 show in Lancaster, and me and 20 others were on a stand for UK-MKIVS.

The car was polished, waxed, bard, for 15 hours on the saturday. So i thought i would post a few pix from the weekend. Some were
not taken from me, but they came out well!

Ok bit of an update as i have not written much on my build thread for a month now!

Although i have not written much alot has been done to the car since, I have now bought a Nitrous bottle warmer kit for £240 from wizards of Nos which means the pressure in the bottle will always remain the same, i.e. when you use nitrous the pressure drops, this will stop this from happening!

The system works like a thermostat in a house, when the pressure reaches where it needs to be it flicks off, when it drops it flicks on.! The kit looks like a tyre warmer with a digital gauge and an armour switch in the front! I will try and get some pix up next week!

Another thing i have done is got some rear coilovers, so the car is now on a 80mm drop on the back, i love the look of it, sits like a dog

Another thing i have done is increased the Nitrous Jet size so the car is now running 300bhp

I also had a safety devices cage made for the car, looks mint in my opinion, the cage has a detachable 'X' so i can still have passengers, the cage is in black so it matches the theme of the car!

At the moment i am now removing all the dash as it is going to get flocked which should look ace, aswell as that im creating my own centre console out of carbon!should be done by the end of this month! i'll keep you all informed!

Well...................

After a wait, my porsche cayenne brakes are now finally one! After working closely with Dave Brown off Ukmivs (incredible guy, who knows everything there is too know about brakes), we booked the car in at Revo today!

The brakes are something i would have normally done, yet as i have spent sooo much money on this set up i wanted it done right! Especially the bleeding!

Not all went smoothly though, as just as Revo were about to fit the calipers to the carriers, they realised they would not fit on the brakets! My face dropped

Yet they rang Dave, and he was there in 5 minutes sorting the problem out! What a guy! So the brakes are now on, and they look AMAZING, and that is a complete understatement! I currently have no image of them on the car as it was going dark as i left ,but will post some pix very very soon!

The main thing about this story is a MASSIVE thank you to Dave Brown, one of the nicest and most genuine guys i have ever met! His work and his enthusiasm is incredible and i would and always will recommend people to him!

I have been to many tradesplaces and met many tradespeople, yet Dave is defo the most top top guy of them all! If anyone is interested on brake set ups he is the man!

Well here are the photo diaries anyway....

Test fitting at Daves

When we were happy that fitted great with only a 10mm spacer needed, we got them made up, yellow with a full refurb, polished pistons new ceals and the lot!

It was then taken to Revo for fitting!

hi guys

Not been posting that much recently as i have been rushed off my feet a work! But i have been planning some great mods for the car ! those who follow my build thread will notice i have not done that much recently, apart from the brakes! Oh and the purge kit, i still need to put videos up of that!

in regards to the purge kit i am really pleased with it! It comes out of both wheel arches around 4-5ft in the air! It is more than funny at traffic lights! Wathcing peoples faces in complete shock!

Anyway, a new mod, arrived today, in the biggest box i have ever seen in my life!! As you may know im going for a fast road/ track look with the car! So when i saw these at edition 38 i thought sh!t me! I have to have to these in my life!
A team called Xmotorsport had them on sale!

So i have bought them! ................ Corbeau Revolution Kevlar backed, FIA approved bucket seats! And i have to say, they are UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! I can lift them up with a finger, they hug your whole body! and they look in my opinion! THE DOGS BOLOCZ!!!!

Anyway here a few pix, not fitted as i got in late and was heavily raining! job for tomorrow! pix are off my phone so poor , but will update tomorrow. The seats overall came to £1243 so they were alot! But i really want to make a car that is so different to anything out there! comments welcomed with open arms!

Once again sorry for poor pix!

The fitting of the seats!!!

Yesterday as the sun came up i awoke knowing i had to fit these seats, and i was praying that they would fit! So i called up the lads who seem to always get dragged into my world of modifying! We cracked the kettle on and we began to work out how we were going to go about doing it!

(dpar with a brew!)

Brewed up, we now had the seats in the garage and we were now ready to crack on!

The car was completely stripped down, the front seats were taken out.

( i never knew how much i bit my nails, I must have found thousands under the seat frame  . once the car was stripped down, we began to place the seats in the car, yet we came to a massive problem! The seats would not sit how we thought they would! We thought they would perhaps bolt onto the existing brackets, but no, the seats litertally sat on the floor, and when testing sitting in them! I could barely see over the steering wheel! And im 6ft 3, so hardly short

So.............. Major decision time? How the hell would we manage to get the seats at the right height, we went back to the drawing board!!

We decided we were going to make our own frame, something which would bolt onto the existing runners that old seats went into. So that was the plan, this would make the seat sit at the right and also mean the frames were secure!

So let the mayhem commence!

We eventually got the frame made! and it was actually a very very well done job! So once the frame was in position, we could now bolt the chair to the frame, and the front of the chair to the floor. This was done for both seats!

Well , that was once we had managed to get the drill out of the floor! it got stuck for quite a while!

part 2

We got the seats in and bolted properly and securely using lock tight and locking nuts! So the seats are not going anywhere!

This whole job took over 20 hours of work! And i cannot believe for over £1300 corbeau expect you to do this! I know there official rally seats! but come on

So here are some pix of the brand new seats in!

On some of the photos you can see the flock dash which i have not yet properly taken photos yet! And on some photos you can also see the Centre piece i have been working on, made of solid carbon fibre, its for all the kill swithches and armour switches for the nitrous!

comments would be great! To be completely honest the photos do no justice! I have to say , i am getting to the point where the car is really starting to come together now! These seats look FOOOOOOKIN brilliant! And i think they really really add to the track look im trying to achieve!

Evening all!

Well.....i have just got in from my garage very cold yet very very happy! As i threaded yesterday i was fitting my bonnet and my windows today! Which both i was quite apprehensive about as panel work is an art to fit properly! But anyway....

Tonight i cracked on with it ! And i have never been happier with the car (apart from she is horribly dirty) This weekend i am taking an SLR camera out for the weekend and getting some actual proper photos of the car! So these pix on here are a bit sh!t. but just wanted to keep you all updated!

The bonnet looks so good i would actually mate with it if it had a hole! Honestly...really good quality carbon! And FULL CARBON NOT SKINNED

The windows are AWESOME. i know there not to everyones taste, but i love em! They really add to the track look im going for! Yet these photos do no justice. they really dont!

The reason im only 90% done is i still need to fit the driver window, as only did passenger one tonight but will be done by Friday! Anyway.... here are some crappy pix! But honestly boys... she looks like a serious track slag now!!

Soooo ..... bonnet off

Looks weird without a bonnet

And new bonnet on......

Bit of an update...

Had all the front end of the car resprayed last week as it was a little stone chipped and had a little crack in it! So the paint work on the car has never been better!

Also got the carbon fibre wing mirrors arriving this week hopefully! Also got a custom 'secret' part being made up! I will reveal all when its done!

Hi guys

Thought i would announce a bit of good news that i have received!

My car has been accepted to go indoors at ultimate Dubs this year! Really really pleased to say the least, as i have been working on the car for this show for the last year and a half!

When i went ultimate dubs last year i saw the standard and really wanted to achieve showing off the hard work that i have put into the car!

So i really hope alot of you are coming down in March, only 6-7 weeks away!

a little bit of an update!

I have just bought a Quaiife gear nob in nylon, really pleased i found one, as they are quite hard to get hold of!

Also bought a tow strap to add to that real track slaggy look! Should look ace once its on! The car is booked in on the 13th February to have the cage extended, i.e. will be a fully structural cage! also going to have a harness put in so that its alot safer, and should also look the nuts!

After that! I have a visit booked in Down at the one and only TUK customs, as the lads from down there are doing me a favour for ultimate dubs! You will have to wait and see on this one

Aswell as that also bought some Mk5 r32 dial needles, so cant wait to get them in! The car is currently being stripped of all the interior, roof lining, carpets, and stuff that is no longer needed! So the car will be a true slag soon!

Also got the custom part still being made! will reveal that when it arrives! should be next week! Should look mint aswell as ive never seen this done before!

Lots to do in so little time, as the show is not far away!

Update with pix soon!

Ok....

Not updated you all in a while, but there are some very exciting times in store this month! As i mentioned that the boys from TUK customs were going to sort out my car for me, by this i mean that they are going to spray the whole of the inside of my car which is now completely stripped in piano gloss black!

Aswell as the inside being done in gloss black, i am putting a new 5th r32 wheel in black in the wheel well, and positioning the nitrous bottle to the left, and hopefully getting a full dousing system installed with a nice large red fire extinguisher on the right side of the wheel well!

They are also going to spray my roll cage in yellow, which is being fully extended next week, with a harness bar. And yes you did read that..... YELLOW . The black on yellow will look mint! matching the omp harnesses and steering wheel. not to mention the 6 pots!!!

Big month, big changes! I will update when i can!

Well i cannot actually believe it!

There really is a first time for everything! I bought a set of carbon fibre mirrors for a mk4 golf off ebay around 10 weeks ago! They arrived yesterday only to be completely useless! Basically the problems occured around 5 weeks ago when the parcel was on parcel forces tracking system, and it arrived at the wrong address, so i thought sh!t, ive lost my product here. so i emailed the guy back and said mate whats going on? So he said he would send another and it would be here in 1 week tops!

So......i gave him the benefit of the doubt, and waited! 5 weeks on. i.e. yesterday, they arrived! Only to find they were bloody useless, one was a massive mirror, and one was small! I was fooking mad to say the least! I have emailed him all morning! He replied with, " if you had a high IQ you would see on the picture that one is large and one is small"

I replied, bolloocks! On the advert it clearly stated for a GOLF MK4 , So i dont care what it showed in the picture, (the picture was basically showing that they did them for other cars like lupos and stuff. So i replied with dont you f**kin dare! I have paid £100 for these mirrors give me bloody money back!!!!

He isnt doing? I have read his 8 bad reviews and they are all about these mirrors, everyone seems to have the same story, fake tracking numbers, wrong sized mirrors, waiting 35 days etc etc! I am gutted to say the least! I have emailed paypal and put in a dispute but i got an email saying that this dipsute was nothing to do with them?

This is the guy!!! STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!

well.. there were points where i thought eventually if i ever sell the car, i could put it back to normal! Yet over the last few mods its now impossible to ever go back to normal!

I have now come to the point where i will never sell this car!

1. i would lose a sh!t load of money
2. and 2, sounds weird, but i would lose a piece of me, as ive invested everything i have and do into this car!

Anyway... this weekend was a big weekend of work! Full cage work, extended, now fully track legit, and harness bar installed! Aswell as that a nice tow strap on the front! Which i think is a great track feature! Some might not like it but nm.

to be honest, these photos i find quite shocking, as ive never seen a mk4 interior in this state before, other than that, it was my bloody car

But it has to be done! all in preperation for next saturdays big spray job, where the cage is going yellow (match the brakes) and the inside is going gloss black!

Ok guys

those who follow this build thread will know that the car was booked in for some major work this weekend! And wow has it changed the car! Some might like, some might not! I BLOODY LOVE IT!

I have quickly uploaded a couple of pix as i dont have time at the moment to upload them all! But these should give you a good taste! It took overall 14hours of work! It was sikkens pain which was around £360 a litre! So not cheap lol!

You can just about see the R-line bumper on some of the photos, that got fitted properly today with lower black panel put on aswell! so will get some pix up of that this week hopefully as it looks beautiful!  I have about a 1,000 photos from the day so i will upload all when i find the time! The R-line looks sexual!!

Anyway feedback much appreciated!

Ok.......

Those who have been following the build will know i had the magazine feature last week! So i have hit one goal that i wanted to achieve! My next is to really really make this golf into a track monster!

I am picking up my new VAG tonight, which is a 2004 audi a4 sport 1.8t, with the S-pack and full leather interior! Mint car honestly!

I have bought this new VAG for 2 reasons! One of which is so i can trailer the golf to tracks and shows! As it will be soon a bit too tracky to drive on the road! And also because i need a comfier and quieter car to get to work in!

So stay tuned! will post some pix of the new A4 as soon as i can! But no too many! As this thread is about golfy! and boy is he going to look mean by the end of this year!

Ok........bit of an update!

The car is now completely changing! AGAIN

I have just purchased the VW touring car wide arch kit for the golf, this includes front, rear bumpers, touring car spoiler, wide arches! Which means i can run a much wider wheel base! I can run upto an 11j rear wheel set up, and 10j front set up.

The kit should arrive from Germany on Tuesday hopefully! The kit involves major fabrication so will keep you all updated when i can! Alls i can say is shes going to look wide!

Bit of an update!

Things are now starting to come together! Pix will come soon !

I have just booked my trailer B+E Licence course on the 3rd 4th and 5th July so i can start trailoring the golf to track days and shows!

My adaptors are now being custom made for the wheels so they should arrive next week. As the wheels are Jap they were a PCD 114, so i have now got adaptors made to make them PCD100.

I bought some tyres today! I knew the tyres were going to be expensive for the wheels as they are so bloody wide, but i had to get some good ones!

So i picked up some R888's all round today! So getting them fitted this week onto the wheels!

I need to rake up the suspension at some point this week just so i can actually get the wheels on. As at the moment its too low for the wheels to go on .

Updates to follow soon

Hi all

Got some photos off my mate today from the convoy down at Ultimate Dubs 2010.

As you may know the car is now under serious work ,as the car is literally being cut up to fit the wide arch kit! But found these photos, as to be honest made wonder why on earth i change things all the time.

I think it looks superb on these shots! And to be honest im normally the most critical person about my car.

But hey, how life would be boring if everything stayed the same! I have to move on lol! Project number 2 is not so far away! Fitting the new wheels this week hopefully!

Hi guys!

Thought it was about time i got some pix of the wheels and the current progress on the build! My goal for the project completion is Edition 38! But we will have to see! the wide arch kit should hopefully be done by mid July!

Anyway, here are the new pix of the wheels! WIDE lol.

They are of course the Rotar grid drift with r888 tyres!

The car is DUSTy as sh*t! But not to worry! Will be sorted and cleaned soon!

and yeah the car is high as sh!t as i put the standard suspension on just so i could get the wheels under the arches! That will be sorted soon too lol!

My first pic is epic! Just to see my mates confusion at the width lol!

hi guys!

Well after 3 long months of waiting, as the body and fabricator took a while getting round to doing the job i have finally got her back! And i have never been so pleased! Don't get me wrong the car still looks pretty nakered but i can see the potential behind this project now! And I feel more and more confident that it's going to work!

Just a quick run through of what has been done
1. Full structural roll cage
2. Arch work on the car
3. Rear diffuser
4. Rear un-necessary parts removed
5. Rear tyre well removed and replaced with plate
6. Bonnet pins added to carbon bonnet

Tbh i dont know why im posting these photos are they are pretty sh.i.t but i just wanted to share! I am going to take some proper photos with the camera this week.

Next on the list carbon bonnet, all the body work sorted including full respray, suspension, engine conversion then maybe...... just maybe i might be able to get her on a track next year :)

I know some people will hate what im doing with the car as it's not "scene", and some people will dislike some of the ideas! But marmite ideas to me are always the best!

Anyway guys feedback much appreciated! Once again terrible photos but hopefully you can see how good she looks!

In contrast to these photos obviously the car is looking less magazine like at the moment but my mate took some pretty cool photos on his new camera equipment over the weekend and i really like the shots!

There is a nice mood to them, car looks pretty evil too! :)

My mate also came round with his 200sx (s14) and wanted to try on one of my rotars.
Quite funny when I saw how much bigger my 10's are than his little 7.5's

Quite a cool one of the wheel too (shame there so dirty lol)

Hi guys

Thanks for the feedback, yeah the new engine set up will be big, not sure what it's going to be yet but got a few options on the table at the moment.

anyway... to last weeks work. As i want this project to take a huge turn and be something completely different that means one thing. The engine needs to go, and so does the nitrous. I love the nitrous system yet if i keep it it will still be known as the mk4 with nos. Yet i want this to be completely different.

I have sold the nitrous system to  a guy on edition and sold the block to sambo (you might know him, he's got a 460bhp Audi A3). Really really nice guy. So last week was the big removal. So are the photos of the work. There was a lot of swearing, arguments, bleeding, brake fluid in our eyes, radiator fluid on our croches.... oh and A LOT of cease bolts and nuts.

Updates to follow :)

Well then! MASSSSSSIIIVVVEE weekend for the golf this week! I have finally saved the funds for the big, this being all the serious arch work and full respray! Inlcuding door sills, engine bay etc!

I will be towing her down on Saturday morning to ex owner of tuk customs Rob Keetley, his work is sh!t hot so can't wait to see the end result! I will give you one big fat clue on colour!

Some may turn there noses up :P

But i think this is going to certainly turn some heads!

Built all the front end back last week after the engine removal, wheels on, everything together, quite weird to see the car together again in one piece.

Built her up ready for the big job ahead. Spray job!!!!

Ok.....

Not posted some pix in a while but definitely wanted to get these on here. I never thought there would be any downsides to running such a wide set up, in my eyes the wider the better (unless were talking about women).
Yet last weekend i came across a big problem because of how wide the golf is! it LITERALLY ONLY JUST fit on the trailer. I have never seen anything so close in my life. We got the winch attached, wound her up, and suddenly i heard my mate shout stop! I thought...... hmmmm maybe the winch isn't on properly..... nope! Jake.... the car wont fit.

WTF????

We winched her up soooo slowly and managed to get her on, with about 22mm either side. Note to self i need to find a super wide trailer next time.

Well then, after the tight ordeal of getting her bloody on the trailer, I hit the motorway for 3 hours with my audi doing about 5mpg, cost me about £200 in fuel! Note to self..... get a diesel if i tow again. Transporters are much cheaper and much better on fuel.

Anyway, dropped her off with Rob Keetley, can't actually wait to get her back! Think she's gonna look pretty crazy.

He is how i left her, had to push her quite a lot as obviously no lump in it. This is the last time i will ever own a silver golf! :(.

Good bye silver, here comes crazy yellow...
