hello all
I need a new speedo cable for my 8v gti. VW do not supply these any more.
Now ive got the option of GSF or Euro Car Parts.
Ive had a pattern cable before. At the gearbox end of the cable (where its held in with a star head screw) it did not sit flush to my gearbox. This ment that the speed did not register as the cog wouldnt spin.
Question...
Has anyone used pattern cables from the two above? Do they fit well as the original ones?
thanks

Try for a Gemo one.. They're up there as one of the best. By far.

the reson it didnt sit flush was you didnt get the cog seated in the box correctly, it can take a bit of wiggling. there is a pin on the end of the cog, this has to drop into a hole inside the gearbox to hold the speedo gear in place

Jonny. The cable did not sit flush at the top where it goes into the box. When i secured it with the screw, it would sit at an angle so i hacked it up and MADE it fit but that lasted about a week.
chers ill try a Gemo one

yeah like i say, it does that if you dont get the speedo gear quite in right, it can be fiddly. if you bolt it up like that the gear only makes slight contact with the teeth inside the box, and ends up with a groove cut out of it then stops working, mate did exactly this on his car :)
