Title: 1984 mk2 sunroof - advice needed
Post by: swinie on 05 August 2004, 15:36
hi all, im new on this forum, have had a mk1 golf which was written of by a nasty white van and now im thinking of another golf.
ive managed to find an absolutley pristine mk2 1984 gti 8v which is almost perfect apart from one thing - its sunroof!!

as its a very early model the sunroof isnt like a normal one, its like a canvas soft top thing that goes over half the roof, which is cool and very retro however im going away to uni soon and its a BIG security worry.

has anyone ever had a golf with this kind of roof??, also do you rekon it would be possible to weld a section in its place to make a complete hard top??

anyone ever done this to theirs???

id be interested to hear what people think and if i get ill post ya some pics :)

thanks all
mike

I'd leave it as is, a nice rare option which is bound to keep its value!  Just don't leave anything valuable in it mate, cos if a thief sees something he wants he'll have it one way or another.  To be honest they'll just put the window through 9 times out of 10!

If you're worried about it being stolen get a chunky steering wheel lock, should deter most!
