Title: Dreaded Oil Leak ... :( :( :(
Post by: DubSociety on 06 May 2009, 16:42
Had a minor oil leak for ages now, but finally got round to being able to afford to fix it. It was very hard to trace, but I had the oil filter replaced, sump gasket replaced put everything back together but we can see the oil is coming from behind the oil cooler ... so went to VW today and ordered an O-Ring and a Gasket that connects straight to the engine block ...

My question is ... is it common for the oil cooler to be damaged? because luckily the seals etc only cost me £6 but the oil cooler costs bloody £100!!

Fair enough, I hope its just the o-ring then ... my cars engine has had A LOT of money spent on it now if I look back at another electrical problem I had last year, I hope she's happy lol!

Should really only need the o-ring, make sure you clean it all up before fitting the new o-ring plus make sure it is not pinched in any way.

One of my mates is working on my car along with a few other knowledgeable polish mechanics that give him a hand if he struggles on anything, he's on paid work experience for a year at a nearby garage so Im getting the work done with a bit of a discount aswell and I get to stay with my car and point out anything else I want done while the cars on the ramp ... come to think of it, I need to get the ABS sensors checked out so I might go down to the garage with a multimeter and do a reading on it while he works on replacing the o-ring on friday.
