Anyone know if the white/brown connection to the dash clocks will affect the oil buzzer light going off periodly ???
Not sure what this wire is ? (earth??)...
Also why after changing a thermostat my engine runs hotter ? even when I have blead the air from the system ?

i had thermostat rage last week, car allways ran a bit warm since fitted the ABF, so put bigger abf rad in and fans that choudl power a small wind farm and then it went and boiled ( GRRRR ) pulled it all apart looked at it most confused then tested the really quite new stat in a pan of hot water, it started opening after the water had started boiling :( so rummaged around in toms garage and found an old ABF thermostat that opend at 82 degrees like it shoud so fitted that instead and problem went away

If the thermostat you replaced was quite old its more likely a new stat will make it run a bit hotter, they get weaker with age. I replaced mine a couple of weeks ago because I figured it was running a bit cool, just above the bottom white mark. When I replaced it (with a pukka vag unit) it runs now at just below the middle marker, which is about right and the oil temp is 95-105 in normal driving. The fans should come on with the gauge between the middle & three quarter. That assumes all your senders and gauge are not telling porkies. So it may just be that your engine was running a bit cooler than spec. before you changed the stat.

thats good to know as i thought mine was running a little too hot but it does everything you mention above and has the same figures temp wise

Thanks Guys, The reason I changed the thermo stat was because the temp gauge went to 3/4 all the time. so I thought
maybe the therostat was stuck closed or something. Know it runs 3/4 to nearly full.... yet the oil never goes above 105.
any idea's ? Could it be that the gauge is dicky ? is this a common fault ? Ive ordered a digital temp gauge, will fit friday and see what it says...
could be the sendor maybe ? any helps thanks.
mike.

You might as well change the temp sender while you at it, get a genuine vag item, we run our car with neuspeed thermostat/fan switch set to come in at 180 degrees, remember the cooler the engine better the punch..
