Title: Looking at a new lens
Post by: the_stink on 06 May 2009, 09:51
So ive been looking for a wide angle lens for a while now and came across :Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX 11-16mm F2.8

anyone used one before? a mate of mine who is studyign photograpyh suggested this lens over the sigma 10-22

Also i currently have a 35-135mm but was thinking of sellign it so i could get something like a 24-70 as from what ive been reading alot of people use them as they have a really low F number bu i guess it all depends for what you want to use it for

in my case it is generally portraits and automotive

i know you want the wide angle  but have you considered getting a 50mm prime lens too? instead of the 24-70? results from nicks are consistently impressive.

Pretty much the same as the fisheye thingy I have. They're great for the money but if yuo look at the shots on the add you can see the fuzzyness round the edges due to the poor glass quality.

I say get it, have fun with it (especially with the rig) and then when you can afford a proper wide angle bung it back on the bay.

thats what i was thinkign as the two shots showing before and after, well shoudl be wide enough for the rig, its between that and a 50mm prime i have found!!! got to wait till 3.30 to see what price the 50mm is at then if its good try and sneak a bid in at the last moment lol

I got mine on a BIN from a guy who had like 50 in stock. Prices may have gone up though due to the exchange rates etc. They were about £60 this time last year!

Snap, the Sony and Sigma ones are epic expensive, plus my next purchase will be a Sigma 10-20.

Neither have I really as it's all going on my cars. I can just about stretch to it at the end of this month though and I really want it for the summer.

Yeah, I love my prime! Managed to get mine for £45 delivered just before the prices shot up! I used it last night at a meet so I'll see how the pictures came out when I get home.

I also have a Sigma EX DG 24-70mm 2.8 throughout - What an incredible lens! Portrait shots with that thing are just perfect.

Wide angle, the Sigma EX DG 10-20 is very good! Smallest aperature is f4-5.6 though..
