Title: MFA & Acuracy?
Post by: Chris36 on 04 May 2009, 19:04
Hi guys just wonderig - how accurate are these??

Been running around in my Mk2 a lot more recently - seeing 38 MPG on the MFA

Is that realistic?? Not really paid any attention to the actual miles ive covered!!

Standard 8V BTW

thinking about it, if a speedo can be 10% out, then the mileage on our cars is 10% too high

well with changes of tyres for stretched etc etc etc  then yep, i doubt if ANY speedo therefore milage is accurate

i know mine over-reads 5mph across the board according to the sat nav

My MFA tells me I'm doing 7 MPG at about 20 MPH on the motorway

In reality its more like 45 MPG at about 100 70 MPH.

I've always gotten pretty good fuel economy though, but I put it down to how dense the cold air is, with it being -40 degs Celsius outside - or maybe my MFA is lying about that too

I don't even trust my MFA for the clock, as its never been right since I got the car - I cannot be bothered waiting till midnight just to pull the fuse and set the clock.

Better than guessing I suppose..

Mine averages 27~32 to the gallon and on a long run closer to 40, work our the total numbers of litres to a full tank, reset the trip counter and see how far your money takes, it's just sums at the end of the day don't need the MFA to tell you..

Thanks guys its answered my question - No. Its not reliable!! Best to work it out yourself. I will take a note of the miles once I fill it up.

Before my MFA died I used to regularly compare the reading with reality, and it was always to within 1 or maybe 2 MPGs
