Right what to do, these are my options only ones i really want so opinions.
I should know this week latest whats going on.
All these cars will keep me happy some more than others
two points to remember
1. Better half is worried same thing will happen if i have my car again.
2. I need to have something GERMAN
-
Have a change.........Depends on how much you like your GTI?
With regards to the toe rags it could happen to any desirable car.....
-
s3 no competition. unless the reason for getting it is cos you binned the GTI, in which case, i suggest the bus or train.
-
^^^he had a R32 that was knicked but now recovered but damaged
-
Get the A3 3.2
A few tweaks will have it at R32 performance but in a much more subtle package!
I would suggest a test in an S3, they are very boring to drive, fast but soulless (if you liked the R32 you will dislike the S3)
The R32 (in mk4 and mk5) and the S3 will attract too much attention mate. The A3 3.2 can be had for under £10k, some suspension mods and an exhaust for £1000 will put it close to an R32
-
My concern is that they're gonna come back in which case, I'd get a revo map on there with the car in valet mode or something unless I switched the car over. If I could do that, then I'd go back for the same car.
But you could always look at this as an opportunity to get something different.
A3 - that isn't as powerful
S3 - better but very desirable
130i - I absolutely hate the look of it
I'd go for a MKV R32 or MKV GTI.
-
Get the R32, a dog, a gun, a tracker, a garage, gates, and a new bada$$ beeatch.... job done :smug:
-
I would go with a standard Mk5 GTI, or possibly an ED30.
Not as desirable as the R32, but still a great car nonetheless, and similar to what you already had.
I would have said S3, but I hate the older ones - look ugly IMO. I only like the new shape S3's.
-
Forget the BMW...
I had a 120d M Sport.
OK, different engine, but the engine wasnt the issue....very cramped, especially in the rear.
AWFUL, bordering on dangerous handling in the wet (runflat tyres were a very bad idea BMW!!!). I would have lost mine on numerous occassions if it wasnt for traction control!
No-one lets you out of junctions :undecided:
Build quality not as good as Audi/VW in my opinion.

The A3 is just as powerful (although requires a remap and exhaust but its costs alot less to buy)

bmw 1 series is ghey, coming from mgf owner.
-
hard decision due to circumstance
what does the other half think to all of the above?
-

which is why you should ignore his opinion

That actually makes me tempted to buy one!

Didnt realise they had come down in price that much!! thats a cracking deal for a great car! Anyone with £20-£25 to throw at a car can get some serious machine for that money at the moment.

Do prefer the Z4 but the 135i is M3 speed (possibly faster) after a remap!
-
Understand your dilemma, but IMHO (and I've just sold my mint Mk V GTI to buy a Touareg ), I'd stay with either the GTI or R32, no question. The rest are a compromise and maybe worthy considerations but given your selection options, you are looking for a comparable car to the GTI without the theft potential. Ignore this, crime stats show very little repeat victims - don't let some scrotes spoil your life and enjoyment. Learn from the theft and take suitable precautions (CCTV should be a reassuring option).
Good luck with the decision, I wouldn't touch the original stolen/recovered/repaired car at all.

Z4M is 330bhp, which should be more than they ghey 135.
-
Yes but all z4's are horrible a hairdressers car lol a cheesy poof's car
-
JulesV6 - some food for thought there mate
Sharpie - i test drove a 130 before i bought my R32, it was only when i drove the R (and its slower) that i was hooked on the AWD and noise. I do see your point and as your an MGF owner its a valid one lol
Cheers for the response people my GF just thinks if i have another R it will happen again so she is just really not wanting me to ''go through it again'' - her words.
House is all sorted alarm wise and im going for a BlackJax and Tracker depending on my next motor
WORSE STILL - came out the pics tonight Grey GTI with C/C done parked next to a silver ED30.... i then walked to my lovely stickered up 09 POLO, GUTTED
-
380BHP after a remap.

need them to come down a wee bit in price, cant afford to add to whatever my payout or trade in will be. I basically sorted my finances out for the R and done some consolidation aswel so Im stuck really

I dread to think what that cost brand new in 2002. Crazy depreciation !

think they were well north or £100K!!!
-
To think my GTI was only a 2K cheaper is just out of this world.
-
I voted for the Beemer due to its conservative looks. De-badged you would never know what it is. Would keep you and the missus a bit more relaxed parking it outside the house as well.
-
Oh yeah, I went for the 3.2 Audi. Boss used to have one and allowed me to have several drives (even tried to sell me instead of the GTI but was too thirsty for me). With the S-Line kit on it its a really nice looking motor (not as nice as the new shape S3, hummmmm I like them lots)
-
first off you are unlikely to be a target again (according to statistics!) apparantly
then add in the improved security etc which makes it even harder for them.
GTI/R32/ED30/S3 are all 'hot' theft cars so no diff there tbh, its just a heightened risk many arent even aware of
Just choose what you want and learn to relax again with more precautions in place
-
I voted for the mk4 r32 simply coz i love em but could never afford the fuel! imo the most striking gti, why, i have no idea, must be my generation, if i were sane id probs go for an ed30.
-
i voted for A3 3.2 v6
reasons
- it's a bit more subtle, take the badges off and know one will know if it is a tdi, 1.6, 2.0T or v6
- it's not a R or Gti, to keep the other half happy
- not sure on the 130i. great motor, but the a3 offers similar to the R
- pick up a 3dr (as cheaper i find) and you'll pocket £k's
- left over savings, nice exhuast and some sport springs/ coilovers and treat the other half for something and probably have enough left over for a remap or even go for a DSG ;-)
-
I voted to keep it - IMHO, it's a no-brainer (if you can appease "she-who-must-be-obeyed" )
The car has minimal damage, you'll get it back in better condition - won't cost you any more money compared to the outlay of time & cash to sort out a new one.
But it's not down to me - it's YOUR decision :)
Whatever you decide - enjoy whichever car you end up in! :)

Obviously the better the car you have the more desirable it is to the preying eyes but it comes down to how difficult you make it to steal.
Regardless of car they will steal it if its an easy picking. Dad had a Avensis taken quite a few years back now and that was only a 1.6...not a highly desirable car but it was easy as the keys were on display.
If you have a drive, get a security light on it and maybe a security post to block the car in and also chain the gate if possible, all these little obstructions will deter them from stealing your car and look for an easier target...get the car you really want. GTI is my choice (im not biased, honest) R32 if you can persuade the other half. Personally wouldnt like to keep a stolen recovered just dislike the idea of it.

Lot of love for the MKV surprise surprise haha
still no hearing from the garage about if it has gone VW - it hadn't on tuesday
I must say I'm getting less MPG in the 3cyl 1 litre polo than my old R haha
