Hi everyone, great forum btw
just got a 2005 golf gti on friday, used it friday night and saturday without any problems at all.
parked it up last night and when i went to go in it today it wont start, the engine sounds like it has no compression,it just doesn't sound right, its not even attempting to fire at all.
also it comes up on the display STOP and makes a noise.
any ideas ?
thank you

There a whizzing noise by any chance??
Whats the mileage?
-
53,000 miles
its not a wizzing sound as such, just doesnt sound like a normal engine turning over
-
Hope it aint the cam belt!?
-
it does sound like it, any way of checking without stripping bits off ?
thats a great start to my nice new gti :(
-
Coil packs ?

if the cars ticking over, you will be able to see the cam belt trying to move, its on the left hand side of the engine, runs up the side
wouldnt try and start it too many times, just incase it has slipped,
coil packs im unsure of, but there under the engine cover (snaps off) and at the back of the plastic oil cover housing
best bet is check the cam belt, if not find some one with vag com...
-
Is it turning over? if not then it might the battery?
-
car is turning over ok,it is not ticking over, cant see cam belt without removing the cambelt cover.
i cant see any gaps to see whether or not the cams are turning
-
ok,found a cover to remove and got someone to turn engine over, camshaft is turning so the cam belt is not snapped :)
-
Have you connected the car to VAGCOM (VCDS)? That would give you an indication as to what the problem is..
-
^ Yeah, what he said. Would be the next step imo unless anyone else has any more bright ideas on here?

...............one bit of good news.
-
Very good news thats your cam belt is OK, my car is the same age and mileage and I was starting to worry!
VCDS is your best bet to getting it solved, other than that, have you checked if its getting spark and fuel?
-
Got collected today and away to dealer, they reckon it's had some sort of power surge, ecu is fried and the coil packs, replaced them but it keeps blowing fuses so they will have it a few days :(
-
Hope it's covered under your warranty :)
At least you've hopefully got to the bottom of the problem :)
