Title: Another BB16v, another question! - Standard Sidestripe?
Post by: kmpowell on 02 May 2009, 09:11
The sellar claims that the black sidestipe that runs through the centre of the car and round the back, is standard?!?

Can't say I've seen a 16 valver with one before, but he swears it is - so, is it?

Ive got a G reg big bumper 16v and mines not got that stripe and to be honest i havnt seen another one with it either,i think its been put on the car, should be easy enough to pull of tho if you dont like it,my only advice would be if you do wanna take it off then do it slowly and calmly that way you shouldnt damage the paint.

I don't think it is standard, should be easy to remove, warm it with a hair dryer and pull slowly.

To be honest if it was factory it would be a lot better fitted.

That was my initial reaction. If they were were put on afterwards, and I do go through with buying the car, how difficult do you reckon they will be to remove without ruining the paint?

I was thinking a hairdryer, and a lot of patience?

I guess instead of starting ANOTHER thread about this car, I will ask here. The owner has also told me that there are two other issues with the car:
1) the drivers door needs realigning, and 2) the passenger window will only go up and down if it's pulled/pushed.

The second isn't a worry, but the first prob about door, is this a regular prob? It's not a cheap car either (money isn't an issue though as long as I can find a good un') here she is http://pistonheads.com/sales/1010190.htm

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers :)

Window needed to be pushed up and down will just require a new motor or you can buy a complete regulator with motor for about £65.00.

Re aligning the door is normal on older cars when the door catch starts to wear. As long as the door pins have not warn then easy job to do.

The door will be easy to realign just a matter of undoing the bolts and moving the door also just to add ive just changed the catches and pins on my 16v and the doors close alot better as the material around the pin wears out and causes the doors to become clunky and not shut properly,as for the window this is proberly the regulater getting jammed,i also had this problem, the metal wire that goes thru the motor that pulls the window up and down gets frayed over time and then gets jammed in the motor, its not hard to take apart just abit fiddley,id say its worth taking the whole thing out to inspect the regulater and the motor, you can buy them seperatly or together from eurocarparts and gsf again my advice here would be dont go for the cheapest option if you can afford it as the cheaper ones are ok but dont fit that great and you may well end up filing down the white clip on the regulater because it catches on the door as it goes up and down.

Deal done! Subject to a clear HPi report, I will picking her up next Sunday.

I couldn't bring myself to spend that much on the Grey one (see my intial thread if you have no idea which one I mean), and I think this one is just as nice (apart form the 3 minor problems, door, window, stripe, which I can rectify).

I have not read all the thread but !!

with the dodgy black strip this could be hiding some paint work done...

in the paint trade bodyshops or backstreet garages shall try and get away with painting lease as poss!!

so the black strip could be hiding some paint work done
