Title: Tapping Tappets

As you may know, my car ran out of oil while i was driving it and the tappets started tapping really loud, luckily i wasn't far from home so got home and put some oil in and tappets were quiet, not long after i booked it in to vw for a service, as soon as i started the car from their garage i could hear the tappets for a secons or 2 then would be ok, just recently the tappets have been quite loud until the engine is warm.

Will this damage the engine? i cant afford to get the engine looked at yet  :sad:

don't wish to alarm you but thats symptomatic of camshaft failure  :undecided:

Just had a read and his symptoms were flapping and misfire, mine isn't doing those YET!

Just asked about the order to remove / replace bolts so i can check my camshaft if anyone can tell me that would be great!

Also are the tappets adjustable?

have a read over on ukmkivs and you'll find that tappety tappets are fairly symptomatic

No way! just with one thing and another i forgot to check it  :lipsrsealed:

I still want to remove the rocker cover and have a nosey, anyone know the order to remove / replace the bolts

I can't remember where i saw the order, i think it might have been on uk-mkivs i'll check my haynes later as that should say.
