Hello, a 1992 VW Golf 2.0 GTI 8v with 67,000 miles for sale with a lot of work done for MOT.
Problem:
The man selling the car wreckons that on the way to the MOT centre the belt snapped and there is valve damage. the car still starts but the man says he doesnt want to start it.
How do i fix this problem?
Any ideas would be most appreicated. Thanks

simple way is to buy a cylinder head with the valves or a full engine, otherwise it needs stripping and checking for damage (could be a valve or several or worse?)...If he starts it the pistons might get damaged so i understand why he hasn't/won't

Any kind of information would be very appriceted. Even if somebody could just tell me is the engine for the scrapyard or even if the damage can be fixed? Thanks

I think i might buy her, pick up a decent engine, give her a full service and pop in into her. But for all i k now she could be absolutely wrotton underneath. Thanks anyway!

until the head is removed its impossible to say!! but any damage can be fixed but it depends on price really (you can get a complete working 2e engine for £100)

Thanks for your information! I think the best thing to do is to actually go and look at her, come home and have a good think about it. Already have 2 Golfs lol

If he was going slow when it broke it may have suffered no damage.
