Title: Unique MOD charity track-day at Bovington, Dorset
Post by: Diamond Hell on 30 April 2009, 19:24
With a 6.3 mile track this should be incredible:

Details here (http://www.mazdaontrack.co.uk/help-for-heroes-bovington-event-26-c.asp)

I'll be driving and marshaling, for what it's worth.

That looks mint
And for a good cause too!

My one concern though... won't concrete dust be bad for the car?

Go to the 'ring any time.

You've probably got the opportunity to do this only once.

I'll not be wearing my R888s for this one - T1-Rs to DEATH all the way

That's because it's not Brands Hatch, which is for laydees.

You may find there's a *slightly* brighter set of sparks at this event than most of the numpty track-day events out there.  I'm not saying accidents won't happen, but there's likely to be less have-a-go-heroes.

lol, whys that? are you only letting good drivers run?
its 4 times as long as most circuits, and noones gonna be familiar with it, plus the surface is dusty and theres no run off as mentioned. i think youll find theres a lot more crashes than normal, thats all im saying. no need to get all defensive and start insulting as usual

Define 'more than normal' in the context of a track on which track-day events have never been run?

The smaller, targeted events, (like this) where most of the drivers can remember the eighties, to which I tend to go only seem to have a very occasional off, rather than the demolition derbys you seem to be anticipating and are maybe more familiar with.  Maybe that's why you think there's going to be all this carnage?

Either way, it's clearly below you and it's a relief you won't be lowering yourself to this sort of event.

more crashes than normal = higher than average. understand?

it actually looks like good fun. im not going because its too far. ill quote myself again, you might understand this time. (ive highlighted the important bit for you)

i should have learned by now not to reply in your threads  dont worry it wont happen again

Thankfully the event is now full, so it won't be bothered by people who struggle so much with how the concept of 'average' might be applied.

Those people mithering about 'concrete dust' can rest easy, too.  I often find myself worrying about concrete dust when I'm driving down concrete motorways..... NOT.

Thankfully the entry list appears to be packed out with the sort of interesting car owned by careful relics older than me, so it's all good.

Me - here's a great event

Others - oooooooooh, it might be a bit dangerous, dusty, full of hard surfaces etc etc.

It was always going to fill up quickly - it's either something people want to do, or they're big laydees.  Get on, or STFU.

Damn it and I would have gotten away with it if it weren't for you whining gits.

Yes, my command of the English language is so poor, when I don't agree with someone I don't argue my corner, I just insult them....

You're not confusing me with Kells, are you?  Easy done.

Can haz no spectators, yis?

Apparently it's something to do with the location, unless you can 'fix' that?

FG day.

Rain before the event and during the afternoon session.  No dust.

Only about 5 cars totalled out of 150 - on an unproven track there were always going to be some casulties.

Only Golf2s there - two Syncros.

Ooooh, could be worse - could be mine.....

Bottom one looks nasty, hope no one was hurt.

Was the circuit as good as it looked?

Jealous that I wasn't there.

Bottom one had a roll-cage, so were OK.  It would have been a lot different if they hadn't.

Injuries were all superficial as far as I'm aware, but there was some major-league pride damage.

I'm waiting on my photos and will be editing the video I have to put online this evening.

What the song? I like it.

Looked like a nice circuit layout but I'd have to have run my Konis on their softest setting for that is looks hella bumpy.

I've been known to enjoy a little sideways action from time to time.

It's Dry the Rain by The Beta Band, from the 3 EPs disc.

It's not that exciting - it's a standard Golf Syncro exhaust from the resonator box back.  It sounds like a 4 cylinder motor having the tits wrung off it.  It's not a pretty noise.  Nine Inch Nails is much more satisfactory.
