I have had the car in today for cambelt, pump and a few other things doing, went to pick it up and have had to leave it over night as there is now a problem with the power steering and the ASR light is on constantly Is this light on due to the problem with the power steering? !!! Anybody have any ideas what could have caused these things to happen as they were fine when I took it in this morning. I'm hoping they have just knocked something whilst they have been in messing in the engine bay.
-
does sound like they've left a plug disconnected
what other work did you have done?
take it back and tell them to sort it out
-
They still have my car and with it been 6.30 whan i went to pick the car up they are going to sort it tomorrow. He told me a few other things think he mentioned filters??? I'm probably worrying and it'll be something really simple. But can't understand why all of a sudden there should be something wrong with my power steering.

ah right - missed the bit about it was still with them!
i assume they must have done an oil and filter change but i can't for the life of me think what they would have knocked doing such basic servicing :undecided:
not sure if the power steering pump runs off the cambelt :undecided:

I just found this browsing.....When the fluid is low and you add some ... it still needs more after you run it for awhile. The reason for that is that the pump pumps the fluid through the lines and gets out the air in them. Keep filling and checking after you start the car and turn the wheel from side to side all the way. Could be a possibility??????
-
sometimes when you turn my steering it makes a gaunching feeling through the steering wheel and the chirping sound which reckon is the steering pump from when it ran out of fluid  Am not going to change it till it gets bad
I wouldn't have thought it will be the rack, if anything the pump, but for the ASR light too come on aswell :undecided:
Vag-com it for any codes wold be my first stop

He did the test he found 5 faults cleared 3 but 2 keep coming back. But said they were nothing to worry about.

Got my car back this afternoon now running as it should be if not better.. The ASR light was due to a blown fuse and the power steering was noisey due to power steering fluid been spilled during doing the service(not sure how) and it not having enough. So he refilled it. So cam belt, water pump and a good service ...I am now ready to enjoy the car. Thanks guys for your help, much appreciated.

He flushed the old fluid out because he said it was very cloudy and smelly apparently it should be clear so he refilled with new.Is this right? He also did all my filters including pollen filter. Best bit about it all is the bill is been paid for by the garage I bought the car from.
