Got the following issue..
The switches in the drivers door have eratic behaviour. One day they work fine (operating both nearside and offside front windows), the next the offside window won't do anything and the nearside window will go down but not up - i can close this with the switch on the passenger door (not ideal when driving!). Occassionally the drivers window will go down but not up, at which point i have to use the key in the doorlock to close it.
I've stripped the switch int he drivers door panel, cleaned contacts etc but no change.
I suspect its the window regulator, but why would i have issues with both the drivers and passenger window at the same time ??
Anyone had any success just cleaning and relubing the regulator mechanism ?

If the window will go up and down, but is tempremental about which button you use it is unlikely to be the mechanism.
When you say its erratic from a particular switch does it go up then come down again, or will it simply not move at all.

check the wiring when door fully open inside the black rubber sleave could be broken wire or wires or could be a faulty window switch
-
also check the door handle if this has been removed ie to take the door panel off the wires can get damaged this was the case with mine

i had the exact same problem. when the door is fully open, pull the rubber sleeve off from the car body (dont unscrew the plastic connector from the car body, just pull the hose off the back of it) and you will find some severed/bared wires, just re-join a severed one/ tape round bared ones and it should be problem solved.
dont do what i did and buy a new switch off ebay without even looking for the problem

Bang on the money Steve ! Pulled back the trunking to find a thinnish brown wire with some wear on the insulation and a thick red/yellow wire broken. Just used an in line torpedo type connector to jointhe two ends and increase the length by an inch which can only help as the cable was very tight withbdoor fully open.
Thanks very much ;)

I'm having a similar problem, except neither my driver or drivers side passenger windows work at all. I can here a click within the doors when i push the switches (on the doors and the dash) suggesting that there is life somewhere. I've checked the wires, all of which appear to be in good condition. Just wondering if its the regulator and that its coincidence that the two on the same side have died.
Failing that could it be a fuse issue? Or is there one fuse covering all the electric windows?
cheers
-
i would imagine there would be 1 fuse to work both windows, but i didn't see one in the fuse box when i was checking. but maybe there's an in-line one somewhere i'm not sure

My driver window is now stuck closed, was a bit temperamental previously, you can hear it clicking and the revs drop when hitting the button, so i guess i'm getting power to the window motor, i've had the door card off and fiddled tapped clouted banged sworn and growled a lot to no avail!
-
i had similar problem i could hear a click when pressing the button i took the whole window regulator out and 1 of the cables that move the window had forced its stay out and jammed it it may be worth looking at
-
Hey thanks for that.. i'll pull the regulator out, seems likely what's happened

hope you get it sorted if it is a cable you need to pull it back with a pair of grips and it should be ok
-
Thanks..I'm still yet to tackle it actually.. does the whole regulator arrangement come out easilly?
-
easily enough, just undo a few bolts. might have to force the window(gently) down to gain access to the bolts clamping the window in place. The hardest bit is trying to pull the thing out and put it back in, just takes a little time and a bit of trial and error. its a bit like a logic puzzle.
Its pretty self explanatory once you get the door card off and have a look at it.

Had a feeling it was gonna be fiddly..i think i'm putting the job off hehe..
Thanks for the info
