Title: Hic insurance rip off!!!!! beware fellow dubbers
Post by: kamikaze on 28 April 2009, 13:36
just phoned these guys and beware of their tactics on insurance

young man down sarrf quoted me nearly £470 pounds to renew a cabriolet mk 1 , i told him that the person before me had insured this for £225, but he

was not interested and claimed they never looked at other peoples policies for information

i was only trying to help as my car was a special case being an import, anyway  he then comes back to me and asks for the details(information) :rolleyes:

he claimed  the person insured the same vehicle  as a mk 2 gti  and it should have never been
processed  but it was, however my quote of £470  stood , this is a joke!

ok i realise that the information was not valid but such an amount is ridiculous and shows that hic have not got a clue other than to rip people off

a renewal policy with hic 3rd party fire and theft £278.31  :embarassed:  on a cabriolet and hey ho   fully comp with footman james £210.05  :grin:

if any hic members are reading this you guys are ripping decent folk off

i have been with you guys before but never again

What might be £470 for you might be half the price for someone else. Insurance is done on a person by person basis so its a bit harsh on HIC to say they "rip people off" just because they turned out to be expensive for you.

I know for a fact that a lot of people have had a lot of joy from HIC.

Note that Footman James are VERY specific when it comes to insurance people which is probs why they are cheaper. It insure with them under their classic car policy you must:

# The vehicle is over 15 years of age
# The vehicle must be garaged at night
# The vehicle is being used for social domestic and pleasure (including commuting) only
# The vehicle has not been modified from the manufacturer's standard specification
# The vehicle is not a grey or parallel import including US imports
# The vehicle is not valued at more than £50,000
# The vehicle is not a van, pickup, Motor Home or any other commercial vehicle
# All drivers hold a Full UK or EU driving licence and have done so for a minimum of 5 years
# No drivers have made any claims or had any accidents in the past 3 years
# All drivers must be aged between 25 and 74
# No driver has more than one fixed penalty speeding conviction
# UK post codes only (excluding Northern Ireland)
# The vehicle is owned and registered to yourself
# No driver is employed in any of the following occupations:

    * Entertainment, Radio or TV presenter
    * Celebrity
    * General Dealers
    * Courier or Delivery drivers
    * Debt collectors
    * Money lender
    * Professional Sports persons
    * Unemployed persons

These guys were on my list for when I get my GTi, but will add them to the bottom now. Especially for the differences in prices.

and you think that £470 is reasonable do you and would you pay that?

sounds like you are an employee or have friends who work for them, either that or you are a baffoon to argue this point i make

footman james seem to be fair and that is what every person wants ..................is it not?

lol you appear to have anger issues towards HIC.

I actually tried to get a quote off them but went with another company as HIC were too expensive (ohhh the irony)

I just think its a little unfair to bad mouth them just because they weren't cheap for me.

I fail to see how having a list as long as your arm with a criteria you MUST comply to is fair lol. I think all drivers must be over 25 is unfair as Im not over 25. Or your car must be in the garage as my garage is full of sh!t lol. Its hardly fair to discriminate against people that don't have a garage but this far from the point. Again we come back to different companies meeting the needs of different people.

I dont work for HIC

i dont know anyone who does

I am not a baffoon

I do however have 2 policies with them, but i ONLY go on quotes from other companies for comparision on the SAME vehicle,

 NOT from what ex owners / other forum members / internet heros / etc etc

and they were CHEAPER than footman James / brentacre to name but two - hecne why they got my business.

For all you know the person before sold you up the river saying he got insurance for that amount.  :grin:

my classic policy was reduced DOWN from over £300 cos i garaged the car, and reduced my annual mileage.  its now £210 - doesnt mean the next owner will get that price.  :wink:

Spot on

I'm insured with Zurich who have one of the most comprehensive premiums - it isn't cheap but i know that when i come to claim i'll be covered  :wink:

Cheapest doesn't always mean the best  :wink:  read the small print

I went with HIC, no one else could come close, and most weren't even interested when I said the car was modded.

WELL

IF YOU WANT TO PICK BONES, I DIDNT WIN A YEARS FREE INSURANCE AT THE RAFFLE AT ED38 AND I THINK ITS A FIX!!

( i am insured with HIC, and they were the cheapest quote, and also the best to speak to on the phone, they talk like they are your mate, rather than quizzing you like a murder case..haha. And i will be renewing with HIC in september)

I can't believe you're arguing the fact that your insurance isn't cheaper than someone else

AND THEN calling everyone else a buffoon.

Shocking.

worst. original post. ever. fact

how you can make such a blanket statement is utterly ridiculous.

i am with HIC and they were half the price of the next closest insurer on my modded car, the rest of them didn't understand the modifications listed and weren't interested, even though I am 34, nil points, full NCB, good postcode, off road parking etc

i also like being with HIC as they have a vested interest in the DUB scene and speak to you like a human being in English and can understand what a 'coilover' is.

as well as HIC, you seem to have a problem with southeners too...  perhaps you should take a chill pill and just relax man

thanks... errr... I think... you sure you're not hitting on me??  :huh:

that was a year or so ago... but most people don't think I look 34...

including the tw@t in the supermarket who ID'd me the other week... he ended up being more embarrassed than I was... especially when he said...

"i'll be so embarrassed when you say you are nearly 30 or something"

"so how would you feel if I said I was 34 then??! [b!tch]"

is a bit of a hinderance though... holds you back in business until people realise how incredibly intelligent I am... then they STFU

+1 Guy. I am astounded by the amount of people in my office (I do commercial Motor insurance) who don't understand much about what it is they are insuring. There is only one proper petrolhead in the office and that's me. I get people asking me what a Renault Espace is! At least with HIC (as you say) they know what modifications are and how to deal with them! Most insurance companies employ people who don't know the first thing about vehicles.  :angry:

i used to work for a direct insurer and had the same issue there... call centre was full of young lasses who didn't know the first thing about cars...

its typical 'computa says naaa' scenario

May have to check HIC out, my policy is up for renewal in a month and even though Tesco Value is pretty damn cheap, can't help but feel that they will shaft me as soon as I try and make a claim.  Also, they want to know what security device i have fitted to my car and are demanding a fitting certificate as proof.

i have always found HIC friendly and efficient. They know what they are talking about, and they arnt complete morons.
On the price front, im unsure, i only used confused.com and them to get my premium of £800 a year (im 20, 2 years ncb)... im hoping that it will drop in june when i renew, will be using HIC again, but i will also shop around. im a student now, so cheaper the better.

HIC will use thing you post on the interwebz as ammunition against you very readily.

They are definitely not all that I and certainly won't be even getting a quote from them again.

That doesn't make the original poster any less stupid, or his point even a little bit valid.

I just got 2 quotes from HIC and they are epic. Not ideal situation to be in myself atm but here's the lowdown:

My 1.8 MK3 GL with all mods declared on my own policy by myself = £980

If I have the above, but whack a 1.8T engine in there = £1600

If I have 1 years NCB the above = £1000.

That in my opinion is a bargain.
