Post by: Fielder5757 on 02 August 2004, 11:52
Well, Its been a while so i figured id show people how far ive got with the dub, Im still waiting on a rear splitter, Tints, Paint on the doors, Bodycoloured arches and smoothing off the bumpers, But that should be here by the end of summer  8)

All comments are welcome. And no im not a chav. I just wanted a Mk2 Thats different from all others on the scene. But at the same time is subtle. It needs a real good clean but as its making trips to the bodyshop at least once a week theres no point untill its back on the road. I also plan to get rid of the Big OZ sticker, I only had that so i could get cheap rims  8)

Thanks  ;D

To answer a few questions:

The bonnit vents where a mistake, Just somthing i did a long time ago that i regret. However im going to build a new bonnit when i have the cash with a small Y shaped Vent in the center leading to a set of webber carbs or a K&N replacement Carb (CL)

Motor swap wise, Yes im still looking into it, I might get a TT motor, But im thinking about saving for a year and getting a R32 ;)

And the rear break conversion, Ive looked into it, Designa Dubs wanted ?500, f**k that, My local macanic sayed if i can source the breaks, lines and rear GTI axl outta a scrappy he will do it cheaper.

Pay day is on the 13th, And that month shall see the addition of bodycoloured arches, a good wash and probally a rear splitter. The month after that shall possibly see a respray and window tints. Also i want to shave off the rear door handles and  get rid of the bloody OZ sticker outta the front window.  8)

do you really not feel that a golf gti would have been a better base for the project mate? ???

Nope, Basically i plan to swap out the suspention for a set of adjustable coilovers, The breaks for somthing like a big break kit, And a R32 or TT motor. So i wont need anything from a GTI by the time im done with it  ;)

I plan to build one of the fastest Mk2s in the country mate  ;) As well as one of the most original looking (without going overboard) Not gonna be easy, But i reckon i can do it with the right amount of cash and time  8)

well to be one of the fastest mk2's your gonna have to do some real serious work.

to be one of the fastest you would need like a sub 5 second 0-60 golf.

i would def get rid of the vents, hint of eau de chav mate ;)

Vents are going very soon ;)

As for Sub 5 second 0-60, I was toying with the idea of syncronising it into a 4WD, Putting some uber phat tires on it, Adding a R32 motor and launching it from 6,000RPM. Gonne be ?8000 just for the motor swap tho, Ill probally get board and buy a Supra by then lol.

you could get a twin turbo supra for that price :D
beautiful cars man, and i know how much you like your jap cars ;)

im glad im indecisive as f**k, good reason not to start my own project.

could you really spend 8k on an engine conversion?

thats mint mk3 vr6 money you psycho! :D

Yeah, I dnno, I guess only time will tell, I might just stuck a 16V motor in, Turbo it and have it as a daily driver, Then buy a supra  ;)

nice work fielder mate. might not be to everybody's tastes but is definately original and you seem to be getting a lot of satisfaction out of it which is the the most important bit about owning a dub! if it makes you smile do what you want with it mate.
