Title: 'Big Bumper' 89/90 16v GTi in Tornado Red? Apparently not!

Volkswizard (http://www.volkswizard.co.uk/vwbrochures.htm) brochure page says:

"This is the 1990 model year Mk2 Golf GTI/16v original sales brochure. As it was the first year of big bumper production it does have some historical significance. The 8v still wears the 'Sportcheck' upholstery first seen in 1988 but the 16v had reached its optimum specification with big bumpers, BBS alloy wheels and horizontal coloured stripe 'rainbow' seat fabric officially called 'Colour-stripe). Curiously however it now lacked electric windows which, only for the 1990 model year, were consigned to the options list costing around £500. Another curious point is the unavailability of a 16v in Tornado Red, a decision reversed in 1991 due to public demand"

Is that true?!? I must admit I can't ever recall seeing a Tornado Red 'Big Bumper' on anything earlier than a J, but I am about to go and see a TR Aug' 1990(H), and having read that snippet, it's got me a bit worried! :undecided:

Ive got a very late 89 8v gti shell sat in the garden thats tornado red!

If registered on a H plate then they are probably 91 spec, reinforcing what the Volkswizard quote says.

Couldnt find the spec sheet for the 90 spec brochure when I looked, so all I can do is add to the conjecture  :laugh:

I have a '90 H reg tornado red 16v, its a 5 door too, a coincidence? are they all 5 doors???
