Hello everybody. I was just wondering if it is possible to colour code mk3 golf door handles?
I mean will the paint start peeling off after a while because of the use of the handles or what?
Let me know if you have colour coded your handles or what all material you used!
Thanks

Yup it's totally possible.
Would recommend if you're doing it remove them from the car, give em a damn good clean and rub down with P1000 wet and dry. Degrease them, (fairy liquid) Couple of good coats of decent plastic primer, normal primer would be ok but it'll not last v.long, leave it to go off then coat with a couple of decent coats of you're body colour. Compound buff to mirror shine. Refit and admire your handiwork

Thanks for that! Is that the same method you use for colour coding all the black strips on the car also?
I got a mk3 and i want to colour code all of the black trim you see. haha

The coloured handles on the GTi look great!

or you could buy some later model (already colour coded) handles and you'll know the paint will stay... plastic primer is ballacks

black suits the a gti with plastic trim better anyway!

This is for my Golf CL by the way, not the GTI. I agree that the GTI needs a bit of black trim, but i have yet to see a fully colour coded GTI. Anybody got pics?

16v GTI, although I have rear doorhandles from a mk4 polo. :)

Yeah, polo handles, colour coded FTW.
Decs look good.

You get decent enough primer, and it's cheap and cheerful. Later spec handles obviously would last longer but for the pussy it'd be trying to track down a set I reckon it'd be easier to paint them over a couple of hours on a Saturday.
Top tip is to warm them slightly prior to spraying, seems to make paint stick better and my mk2 handles were on for 6yrs without peeling.
