im running a PB in my mk2, im haing issuses with hunting at idle and high idle when hot, i tried rub jonnys tuning guide which worked the day i did it but next day went to start and it wouldnt idle at all, swapped my AFM for another one i had, problem solved, but it seams to have forgotten everything i did idle adjustment wise, so i did it again by turning the screw in the throttle body, got her down to 840-900 , drove really smooth and economicly, switched it off, went to start it again late and bang forgot everything again, ixpected it to idle higher when cold but the revs didnt drop n it idles around 1000 - 1100 when up to temp, also my revs seem to be sticking, i go to change gear and the revs either dont drop or drop very slowly, i come to a stop and its idleing at 1800rpm, this ontop of my gear selection problem, everything seems to have shifted toward the pasenger side slightly, all i did was put a weighted gearlinkage on and now finding 1st is a nightmare, im not the best mechanic in the world but im not piss poor soany advise is most welcome! :angry: :angry: :angry:

Have you checked the throttle switch? I had this problem with dodgy revs and was the switch wires.
The wires usualy break.
To test:
Hold the revs up slightly by hand, press the top throttle switch in and the revs should drop. If not then you got a broken wire/dodgy switch.

Worth checking for vac leaks while your at it :smiley:

just been out with the car, revs drop when switch is operated so its not that and vacume pipes are al in good order. :sad:

Check the bung on top of the rocker cover isnt split
May also be worth cleaning out the isv and see if it improves the idle

Bung is good, not perrished and fits perfectly.
already replaced the ISV no difference, will clean it anyway....
why do all of my cars have niggly problems! Is it too much to ask to have just one normal motor!

Mr Blue forgot to mention that the top swich is for full throttle. The bottom switch neatly hidden from view controls the idle. With the engine off open the throttle slightly by hand and listen for a click. If nothing or to be more accurate then connect a meter to the switch terminal (it feeds both switches). There are several threads on here for more info and Haynes is quite helpful. If the switch is not closing when the throttle is closed you will get hunting at idle - don't know about high revs when hot but could do. Hope this helps.

also, if you quickly press the top switch when the revs are high or 'stuck' and the revs come down to a nice idle you know the idle switch for whatever reason is causing the problem :)
make sure the cable isnt too tight, the throttle should snap shut firmly to the stop. you should also hear it click just as the throttle comes on/off the stop as dadrathers said.

all seems to be good with it, gonna change the throttle body anyway cos i have one kicking around so will give it a try n maybe sort itself out! its doing alot better now ive put v power in it!

ended up taking it to a local vw legend, my problems are down to the previous owner, his diagnosis is the cambelts way too tight and the tensioners been put on the wrong way! thus throwing out my timing! so next job is new cambelt kit and a clutch! job done! thankyou all for the advise! :cool:
