Title: TICKING...Driving me insane!
Post by: ataripower on 25 April 2009, 22:15
Hi, I serviced my MK1 Cab today. Now when the engine is switched on I can hear this constant ticking sound (a bit like an indicator but not as loud) It speeds up and slows down with the engine. It seems to be coming from the head unit behind the dash but i have switched the stereo off....any ideas what it could be?

cheers

Ticking noise from that area could be a relay. Did you disconnect the battery?

Could be a cracked exhaust manifold.

Hi, don't think its the exhaust, but what do you mean it could be a relay? How do I check?

Sorry i'm new to all this..... Could it be a dodgy stereo?, it sound like its coming from that.

My old cab used to have a clicking sound coming from the relays. To check, do what you're doing to get the click and have someone with their ear by the fuse box in the passenger footwell.

other option is to touch each relay with your finger, should feel it clicking :)
