Title: New 18" wheels OR engine remap and exhaust first?
Post by: lookoutsmudger on 25 April 2009, 11:51
Chaps,

I was originally going to upgrade my std 17's to 18's but have had second thoughts. I'm now thinking a Re-map, exhaust upgrade and filter should come first. TBH i have no real problem with the 17s but would like to change them sooner rather than later but saying that I would also like some 'extra' power as well !!
I have a reasonable budget to spend so what would you do first? Any recomendations on remaps, exhausts etc etc

Cheers, Smudge

There are several remap companies, I got mine done by R-Tech and am very chuffed although not many other MK5s have used them (only me and cookiemonster that I can think of off the top of my head). Most people use Revo or Bluefin (custom code).

R-Tech are very competitively priced (I got mine in a group buy with some the MK4 boys and got it at a steal) and are top fellas.

Let me know how you get on with your research - I will be looking to remap my GTI soonish

A friend of mine got his 118d done at AMDessex - he recommends them highly as a starting point

Cheers Alan,

I've been reading some comments about these R-Tech guys, all are positive and the price does look competitive compared to Revo etc. I've almost made my mind up about using them, just the exhaust to sort out now.

im in same situation as you mate remap or 18s but after alot of thought my 17s are in mint condition and so are tyres so foolish to do that first plus they look ok for now anyway, i mean they dont exactly let the car down imo so bluefin for me bud

And just to add to that - just looked up about Revo (I am a complete noob with remaps), and it seems AMDessex provide the Revo remap

I went for a Revo Stage 1 a few days ago and just had it dyno'd, I have attached the graph.

Only other engine mods are Neuspeed P-Flo and OEM 'D' diverter valve.
