hi all im needing help to sort out her indoors 8v gti on a h plate.
ive changed the plugs.leads.dizzy cap.rotorarm.new blue temp switch.
set timing and co the rite way, also changed the airflow metre/
car still floods with petrol on start up.takes a few turns then stinks of petrol
and floods engine so have to rev it up to clear then runs well till u turn it off.
will start first time sumtimes. any help please.
-
mine was flooding the other day and thought it was ecu not to sure if it was but swapped it and cleaned all the earths in the engine bay. also on the number 67 relay there was a bridge wire that previous owner had put on there that kept pump running constantly so took that out and slapped the relay a few times and seems to have sorted it out. so now im thining my flooding problem was down to that wire and relay so id look at that first. what is your fuel pump doing b4 you start it ? does itprime then go off or stay on ?
-
the pump buzz wen you turn the ignition on then stops. the goes soon as engine starts
-
vac line to fuel pressure reg is worth checking
-
i have renewd all vac pipes.
-
pull your fuel rail and injectors and see if they are stuck open or playing billy suggers
-
just con check the fuel rail in situ. haynes will give you readings to expect.
this will tell you if the injectors are biffed.
-
think il ave to get the fuel rail & injectors out on weekend to check seals,it stinks of petrol only on starting. smells strong on top of injectors engine floods and chokes up then few revs and then clears.
ive cleaned all eath straps, wot about the coil......

that won't tell you much TBH it will tell you if there are any electrical faults but the only electrical thing in an injector is a coil of wire. if the injector has stuck it will still have the same reading just spray fuel all the time and this is a much more common type of injector fail.

ive seen posts on here about ecu's how will i know if its that.
or will i be better off buying a set of injectors
the co passed mot today so only over fueling on start up
-

its in the tim stiles haynes book about digi engines flooding fuel,i cant get a hold of the book till ltr the day but when i do ill post.

cheers all for ur sugestions. i think i found the prob started striping the injectors out today.
wen i took off the vacum pipe from the inlet to the fuel reg thingy
it spurts petrol out of the top of the reg thingy every 60 secs it spurts out the petrol and goes straight in to manifold so thats y its flooding. i am rite aint i?......
-
Hi
Well done.
I guess you just need to change the pressure regulator then.
-
well i hope om rite. dont think its supose to leak petrol out of the vacum pipe.
will a mk3 golf one fit or any other car, or is a valver one the same.
my local scrappy got a valver up there.
-
yep thats deffo not right, unfortunatly MK3 ones wont work you need a MK2 8v GTI or G60 one. Or you could buy new if desperate, party #
