Guys just wondering if any of you had a list of common mot failures on the mk2 8v?
I noticed yesterday that for the last couple of weeks I've needed to get my backside into gear and get another mot as mine expired earlier than I thought so wondered if there were any common problems to look for before taking her in?
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Regards
Ian

my rear wheel bearings needed adjusting! something i overlooked!

Probably one of the most common failures is seized or partially seized handbrake mechanisms on the rear calipers. This results in a non-working or uneven handbrake. I've got my MOT on monday so I spent last saturday fitting new rear discs, calipers, pads and bearings.

Yeah, rear calipers are the ones to watch along with brake pipes, my G(ro)TI '88 needed attention in this area, it's one of the few weak points on the car, other than that just normal bits.
MOT places quite like failing little things, in my case they like to pick on headlight alignment !!
I think it makes them feel like I should be grateful >:(

mine failed :'( on improper headlight alignment and worn rear bearing, no play in it just quiet noisey when u span it, still he did the lights free ive done the bearing so mot certificate should be in my hands monday ;D

Well here's my failure list:-
NSF Wheel bearing noisey
OSR/NSR Wheel bearing excess play (last time I let my mates tighten)
OSR/NSR Struts leaking
Washer jets inoperative
NSF Wishbone bush split.
NS/OS sill corroded
P/brake low effort
NSF/OSF Brake discs badly worn.
CO emissions too high
... bought:-
Wheel bearing kit, set of front discs, wishbone bush and washer jets to fit tonight, welding for my dad to do, handbrake to tighten, rear bearings to tighten and tune-up required for emmissions... all in all not as bad as expected considering this car had been ragged my local estate thugs for years.
