I'm trying to locate an exhaust section to replace the Cat on my 1991 1.6TX CAT Jetta.. I found this on GSF and thought it sounds like it could be the right part.
21325 SHORT PIPE 42.5mm J2 1.6 Carb (Without Catalyst) 8/83 > 7.00
Currently it goes: Downpipe>Cat>long pipe>Middle Box>Back Box, I thought maybe it was a short pipe connecting between the downpipe and long pipe..
What I've received is just an exhaust sleeve/clamp!
Although it says 21325 Short Pipe 42.5mm on the website, on my receipt it says: "21325 Exhaust Sleeve/Clamps 43/46mm"
Do you think there's been a mixup? And if so, does anyone know where I can find a section to replace the Cat? :)
Cheers!

gsf is a big box full of muppets and monkeys.

Cheers Danny.. As are most parts dealers!

Sounds like the sleeve that fits over the joint from the downpipe to the front pipe. To be honest, i very much doubt that a 42.5mm long pipe will replace a cat
-
that'll be the diameter ;)
I doubt GSF will sell the pipe you requirte, you'll be needing a cat bypass rather than a std pipe. On a MK2 the cat tends to be fitted on a shortened downpipe, and the end of the cat ends up where the downpipe on a non-cat car would be. The front silencer/pipe is generally the same on cat/non-cat models. Not quite sure if its the same on a 1.6 though, but I'd imagine so! Prob easier to get your cat off and take it to a good zaust place to have a pipe custom made, or maybe replace the entire downpipe with a std one.

Hmmm, that could make sense

Cheers Jonny, how hard is it to replace the downpipe? I think that may be the cheapest option as I'm on a tight budget!

its not a nice job, but if the downpipe is indeed like I think it is then it should be pretty easy to remove as it'll split in front of the subframe. getting the new one in might be more tricky though! if you jack it up high enough I recon you could get it in, but its not something I have actually done with engine in the car so hopefully someone else can comment.
I'm assuming you have the toilet bowl manifold->downpipe connection right? this is a bonus as its a bit easier to split without issues than the 6 bolt type. (problems as in getting access to all bolts, studs shearing etc)
Once you get the stuff off need to confirm the diameter of downpipe you need, 43mm sounds like boggo 1.6 diameter to me, but I'm not 100% sure on that.
edit: actually thats wht you quoted from gsf, not whats actually on the car! I'll see if etka can light some sheds...
edit2: etka seems to suggest that emmission control versions have a 50mm bore exhaust, which is 1.8 carb/gti size. So you would be after a 1.8 carby/early GTI toilet bown downpipe, what was your engine code again?
