HI well chuffed only just realised after reading some posts that the centre console of my 2006 gti is supposed to have a bottle opener in it to seperate cups lol always thought it looked a little strange, anyway just got a genuine one from fleabay for a fiver lol well chuffed thought they would be going for stupid amounts

Nah, they are pretty cheap on eBay. I checked before I bought my car, just in case! However, my car came with one anyway. Wont use it TBH, but its useful to have for the cup holders etc.
-
yeah thats all i want it for is to use the cup holders
-
My car was missing it too! I must have a look on ebay myself...

.........there is always a few on there & as above average around a fiver.
-
You could pop by your local dealer and order one there, i dont think they cost much, I have heard of people 'borrowing' them from showroom cars too though obviously wouldnt advocate this!
-
When I got my car I thought sumin was missing/ outta place, only when I asked my dealer a while after I bought it what was supposed to go there, she said a bottle opener (obviously mine was missing), so she went out back and got me a new one at no charge!!

Do people have the plastic one or the all metal one? I've seen both on ebay. I think the plastic ones came with newer cars - I guess they're cheaper. The all-metal one looks cool though. Might see if I can get one of them.
-
Mine is plastic, with metal parts in where the bottle is opened etc.
Didnt realise there was an all metal one......
-
For those who still want one - you can get them for a fiver (P&P included) here.......

That seller will apparently only ship to UK. I need it in Ireland! I might see if I can find one of the cooler looking metal ones anyway.
-
I prefer the plastic ones - matches the car interior better ;)
-
yeah thats who ive just bought mine frim ifti
-
Anybody know when they switched from the metal to plastic ones? Trying to figure out what should be in my car - it's a 2006 model.
-
i believe its plastic in the 06 model mate oh and 1 more question/enquiry lol is there suppost to be anything lining the base of that centre thingy where the bottle opener clips in as mine is just plastic in bottom with exposed securing screw heads etc looks like it should have a rubber mat or something in there???????? any ideas guys :embarassed:
-
Yeah, there should be a rubber mat with a moulded space to hold the bottle opener when it's not in place forming the cupholders. At least I think that's the idea - don't have a bottle opener myself!
Is the all-metal opener the same size and all that as the newer plastic one? Will it fit correctly if my car was supposed to have the plastic one?
-
2006/7 were all metal
Cheapo plastic ones introduced for 2008....
-
not too sure on that one mate eh id say get in touch with the guys on ebay via email and ask a few of them i would  hmmm mine doesnt have any kind of moulding inside it, like i said its just exposed torx head screws and a small gap where you can see the underside of the sliding flap thing slide under the cup holder its self

I checked my rubber mat last night, and it's actually two seperate rubber mats. The front one has the moulding for holding the bottle opener. The rear one sits slightly lower down. So it's in two pieces, rather than all one.
-
youv'e got what mrshabz a bottle opener or the rubber mat ?
-
I think he means the bottle opener.....
-
 well chuffed, just got hold of the 2 piece rubber mat from a guy on ebay £10 delivered to my door, happy now my car is complete
