Title: 1.6 8valve to 1.8 16valve development. Info Needed!
Post by: Gti_pete on 20 April 2009, 20:13
Hello,

I am in my second year doing sports car engineering and need some info on a couple of engines! I have chosen the Golf as my car to study as i have previously been told how good this forum is while at a vag meet. Basically i need to look into the progression of the 1.6 8v and 1.8 16v. I believe they have the same block but need information on

•   Block Design
•   Cylinder head design, including valve sizes
•   Valve Train
•   Lubrication system
•   Cooling System
•   Fuel Supply and induction systems
Also any differences in emissions and maintenance schedules.

Any informatation would be really helpful, thanks for looking!

Given that you've chosen a pair of engines that are very cheap to buy, especially if they're a bit tired, you're probably best off going and buying them and measuring up yourself.

Should avoid any confusion.
