car is worth around five bills if im lucky and keeps going wrong every few months,really doing my head in.

check the wiring as this becomes brittle and cracks with age.....

how long would it take to remove the steeering column and test the ignition,im told this is my fault,just spoke to a guy he said 4 hours at 40 bucks a shot!

What makes you think the ignition is at fault.

my mechanic said there is a problem with the wires inside,then again they say anything to empty your wallet! do you think there be a problem like this? my girls a k plate really old now

If it's just removing the wheel and surround so you can gain access to the wires, this is quite a simple job and could be completed in about half an hour. Can't see why you would need to remove the whole steering column to test the ignition.

If it's any help try removing some fiddly bits before taking the car to the garage so they don't have to charge so much for the labour of taking it all apart for you.  :smiley:
