I've bought an Alpine CDA-105Ri (with iPod cable that I want to come out in the glove box) and I have the single DIN fascia converter from VW. I'm wondering if I'll be able to fit it myself, or whether I should just bring it to the local car audio place. The car is a '06 MkV GTI.
How easy/difficult is it? I have no experience with anything like that. What tools are needed? Will just a standard screwdriver do the trick? Does anybody know if there are any picture or video guides posted anywhere on the internet for this?
Thanks!

its easy enough just getting to the thing thats a pain cant remember exactly as havent done one for a little while but can remember the basics
1)take the mat out of the centre pocket on the top of ure dash.
2)there should be 2 screws undo them
3)pop the pocket out
4)facia will loosen that goes around the centre consol
5) im sure theres 2 screws located at the bottom of the centre consol also but onec you have released the top you will see how it comes out
6)feel where the facia dash panel is held they are held on with clips
from this stage the radio will be revealed and just unscrew the bolts that hold it in (obviouis at this stage) the whole unit will then come out.
as to replacing it with single din you will require a din pocket halfords £14.99 and a quadlock vw lead around £30 also an aerial amplifire £7.99 apart from that goes in how it came out

Thanks for that. What's a quadlock lead? Do I need some special kind of screwdriver, or just a flathead or phillips?

quadlock is the kind of lead they use on stereos now well newer cars anyway and is basicly one big block with 20 or so wires going into it and that wont fit into aftermarket stereos, so an adaptor is needed to convert it from a quadlock and into an iso fitment wich will fit any after market radios!

oh and yeah you will need a t20 bit

which is what i listed and you need canbus as there is no ignition live in the vw loom
