I'm an old member on uk-mkivs website.
I started a project which I thought some people with turbo cars on this forum might be interested at.
I decided to design my own custom made boost gauge and even connect it to my car pc and have live dials. However at the same time I wanna design a LED based boost gauge kit with OEM looks just like this:

Here is the working results on LCD (Blue LCD matched the blue dials of Golfs. Top line on the LCD shows the pressure in Pa (Pascal) and second line is PSI (figures in that picture are not accurate).

I will post some pictures + video of the LED working version of it. And also will be installing it in the car at the weekend most probably.
I know this might have been done, but I thought I'd give it a go. Everything has been designed by myself from scratch.
If anyone is interested please let me know. And all the ideas are welcome.
Regards,
Matin.

cool  would like to see the finished article
-
Thank you. Will post pics when all done!
Also as I have a Car Computer, I have designed the circuit in a way that sends the data to the computer in the car and the boost gauge graphical interface also changes accroding to the pressure.
For now it looks like this till I get the graphics sorted.

A little update on this project.
I can confirm that the circuit is complete and ready to go. I've tried it with a pump also so the LEDs turn on as you pump.

Also the blue LEDs arrived yesterday, they're very close to VW cluster colours.

I then designed this for my Car Computer, I think it came out really good.

Now I just need to install it in the car :D
What I have in mind of doing also is to fabricate an LCD, just like the one I posted on this threat instead of the clock in the cluster to show the numerical values. I won't be doing this for myself as I already have an in car computer so I can see those graphically.
What everyone thinks?

Liking the design so far, looking forward to seeing it finished.
-
Thank you.
If the weather permits I will bring the pipe in the car tomorrow and will do the rest indoors then put back in the car. Should be all fine finger's crossed.

Yeah i would like to see it to. do the lights illuminate according to the boost?
-
Yep they illuminate as the boost goes up.

-
so when do you expect the project to be complete?
-
The project is completed. Need installing in the car, which will happen over the bank holiday weekend. So keep watching this thread for more updates, pictures and videos :D
Is anyone interested in these at all? I am in the process of getting PCBs ordered and printed accroding to my designs and getthe componentes ordered, but need ot know if anyone wants any and if so how many.

-
depends how much they are. i would definatly be interested if there at a reasonable price and if there reliable
-
they're definately reliable.
I will work out a price and will let you know. But won't be too expensive as I like to be competitive with other similar products.

any info?

Another little update.
Saturday the weather was good so I brought the boost gauge pipe from under the bonnet into the car. As I needed to take the cover off at the bottom of the windscreen I managed to crack the windscreen at the bottom unfortunately which was upseting  Now need a new screen. Although My screen had a chip and needed to be changed anyway.
Monday it took me almost all day to make holes into the cluster behind the engine rev for the LEDs, however finally got it done and looks absolutely great.
As I didn't get a chance to connect everything up yesterday I will do during this week and will update everyone with the finaleeeee results.
I will upload pictures of how it looks later on today.

Intersting project mate, what are you using for the gauges on the car pc? I am just starting to get my car pc together now :)

Cheers mate.
I'm using Dundas Gauges. If you need help at all just drop me a PM.

I managed to connect everything up today and gave the boost gauge a try.
Here are the pictures and a video as promised.

Nice one looks good in the video :) are the leds a bit bright?
-
Yep, blue leds a bit bright. Need to make them less bright.

i'll watch the video when i get home from work. so are you planning on selling these?
if so, how much? and how will we know what PSI the boost is?
-
Ok mate no problem. Have a look at the video and let me know what you think.
Yes, planning to sell these if poeple are interested. Also I have been looking into getting the circuit design produced as PCBs, this saves me alot of time in terms of fabricating it on a stripboard or a matrix board. At this minute I am negotiating prices with suppliers of PCBs.
I am looking at around £170-£180 including everything and fitted. Although this is a rough guide and may be a little bit lower but now that much.
Hope this helps.

Matin.
-
how will we tell how much PSI its boosting at?
-
Each LEDrepresents around 1.8 PSI.
