I've got a setu of 15's on the car and the tyre size is 195/50/R15 sho what should the tyre preassuree be , all I can find is that the original 185/60R14's should be 25psi front and rear.
any help would be appreciated

What model is the car? Had a look in the manual and the only model that has 25 psi front and back is the 1.3 litre.
If it has 195/50 R15's then the recommended pressure is the same again!

it's an 8v Mk2 GTI

erm, dunno, i change the wheels if a tyre looks flat

Quality..

I run 32 psi all the way round (195/45/15 - BBS RM's).. On standard 6 or 6.5" rims I would run 32 up front and between 28~32 at the rear depending on load and if the car is lowered etc.

Tyre pressure is the same, regardless of tyre size. Tyre pressures corresponds to the kerb weight of the vehicle. Running incorrect tyre pressures, either up or down will increase tyre wear and increase fuel consumption.
See, i've sat through too many tyre manufacturer's training sessions!!!

Well according to the manual (again!), if it's an 8V then its 29 at the front and 26 at the back.

The biggest problem here is that each manufacturers tyre will respond better to different pressures and driver preference plays a part here. I find anything below 32PSI on the front on my 195, 50's just makes the steering soggy, bloody heavy at low speed and I personally like the rears to be a bit higher in pressure to balance the car out and sod the wear (they dont wear much on the back whatever pressures you run anyway). Best option for you is to set the rears at one pressure (I run 36-38psi but 28-32 is probably more realistic from a wear and grip point of view) and experiment with the front pressures till you find a setup your happy with, once you have a pressure your happy with on the front, just keep an eye on their wear patterns to make sure they are wearing evenly. The rears arent really doing much so their pressures arent as important to setup unless you want it to slide a bit when your pressing on to help the front end out.

I do 32 psi in the front wheels and about 35 psi in the rear on my mark II GTi 8 valve. Feels fine to drive and haven't noticed any funny or quick tyre wear. Just buy good tyres and shouldn't be a problem.

the syncro gets seems to respond best to 35-36 psi in the frounts. rears havent quite decided on yet atm they are 35 as well but there is a more grip with less tho

Thanks for the help chaps, I think form the info offered I'm going to run 32 all round for a bit and maybe put 34 in the fronts to see what difference it makes to the steering.
