Title: Need help - cat question...
Post by: twistedblack69 on 17 April 2009, 16:48
Just wondering if anyone has a pic to show me where the catalytic converter would be on an 8v?? Is it horizontal, vertical, or diagonal, if you're looking at the side of the car??

What catalytic converter?

Haven't we been through this before?

We have, but did someone not say it was an optional extra?? And I'm assuming, seeing as it was J reg that it became a requirement to pass MOT, that around the era of my car, they were becoming more popular?? I just don't know where I'm looking   sorry if I wind you up, I'm not here to do that, honest

Why would a CAT ever be popular, they make the car slower and give crappier MPG

I think being a J reg, you will be OK. If not, you can have mine as its coming out tomorrow.

You can de-cat a car that was registered before 1992.

I don't want the cat haha. And I'm on a H reg, I know I'm ok without it, I'm just trying to find if it's there, 'cause that may compensate for some of my powerloss (and lower MPG than others have been getting, that's only just clicked). But like I said, I don't know what I'm looking for.

In that case, it should be a large roundish thing at the bottom of your down pipes near the front of the car.

I did look, but it doesn't really help when I don't know what I'm looking for, hence why I asked. Again, sorry for being a pain in the ass, but what use is learning when you can't ask questions??

If it has a cat, it'll have a lambda AND it won't be a PB motor.  There will also be an electrical connection going down to the front of the exhaust for the lambda.

As far as I'm aware the Golf2 GTI was NEVER sold in the UK with a cat- the changes to the RHD would have been two extensive in the final year of production, with the Golf3 in the wings.

The Jetta limped on a while longer, so may have had to had the cat fitted, see previous comments in previous thread.
