Title: rear exhaust advice

I got a full stainless exhuast system on my MK2 (it was on there when i bought the car!)

I don't like the roar from the rear box, just getting to old for all of that now :) so apart from fittings is there any problems in fitting a standard gti back box onto the system? It will stop the roar yes as i have been told that the back box gives the note!

btw back box from GSF is ?28.50 I was qouted, not sure if that is right though, sound a bit cheap to me

I had a magnex system on mine when I bought it.
The bore is bigger than the standard pipe so a normal back box wouldnt fit.
i took the whole system off, sold it privately on this forum, and used the cash to buy a new standard system.
the car's now smoother, quieter and the new 'zorst has a 2 year warranty.

I am sure there are adapters if the bore is bigger, if not I could get one made up!

Don't realy want the fuss of removing the whole sytem just change the box and stop the roar :)

Its up to you mate, but the back box is half the system anyway.
You'll not get much benefit from a performance mid section only, even if you can get it to fit.

So what is the whole system because I ahve the back box, then about hald a foot away another large box, the further on up there are two smaller cylindrical boxes! Just thinking of a quick fix  :)

you'll actually find that a std 16v system breaths very well indeed - i've read a few reports on other forums - and there is no real power gain from having an aftermarket system - main power gains are from a aftermarket manifold

as for replacing the back box, it might be easier to keep the back box and remove the centre & middle boxes - that way you at least keep the nice tail pipe

16v's have 4 boxes in their system, though one of them is part of the downpipe

Yeah heard that about the exahusts!

It the damn boy racer (no offence to anyone) :) sound I want to get rid of!

I have a spare second box in as it came as a replacement and want to fit that and the standard box.
