Title: ed. 30 xenon headlights!!!
Post by: mattwal on 15 April 2009, 14:16
Hi, i bought a white edition 30 last saturday and am very happy with it, even though i am extremely fussy, and the one thing that bothered me ever so slightly was the fact that it didn't have xenons, but i thought, where else am i going to find a white one as i'd been looking for ages!! does anybody know where i can get hold of the original xenon headlamp units and how much roughly they will be? many thanks!!

Most likely the dealers but you will also have to have the washers fitted and will be very expensive, I would go with some decent bulbs instead.

Oh and welcome, enjoy the ED30

It's not just the headlmap washers you need for xenons, they require the auto headlight levelling setup too!

IMHO, your best bet would be upgrade the internals to xenon spec using the best quality aftermarket kit you can afford.

Getting "proper" xenons fitted at the dealer will cost well in excess of £1000. Your much better off putting that money else where. As has been said earlier in the thread get some decent uprated bulbs, I have the Philips ones in mine and although they are no xenon they are a great improvement over the standard crap ones VW stick in them.

The Halfords super brilliance blue do a cracking job, and whiten the light up nicely. £20 a bulb iirc, but they do 2 for 1.

You have no chance mate; self leveling, the light units, washers and fitting will be close to £3000 fitted by VW.

If you wanted Xenons you should have bought a car with them.

If you haven't, forget them, too expensive for a retrofit - buy the best bulbs you can, but...................................

if you've experienced Xenons, there ain't no bulb substitute

You need a pair of H7 bulbs.

I didn't think the side lights were that hard really, and I have large hands (plus a large c**k, before anyone says  ).

Here is a how-to for fitting the xenons, it cost this bloke 1000 euro for the parts:
