Title: VDO Clocks doing some weird things...
Post by: russ-vdub on 15 April 2009, 12:37
Flushed my coolant system last night, nothing even near the dash, and now when I turn my headlights on, my rev counter stops working, my full beam led comes on and all the backlights behind the dials go out. Turn the lights off and my revs come back and everything goes back to normal

I have checked all the obvious things like connections under the bonnet around the ECU etc but i'm just a little pissed cos i was working in the engine bay, and now my clocks are spinning out

Anyone had this before and could possibly help i'd appreciate a lot :)

Thanks

Russ

Mine was doing the exact same thing on MOT day! When I turned on the headlights, all things on my clocks turned off (revs, fuel, water temp).

I changed a few things, so can't pin it all down exactly for you,

Mine was doing this intermittently just when driving about, see here (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=111109.0). Whacking the dash appeared to make them work again - so I reckon its obviously something loose in the dash.

Since cleaning up the loom in the engine bay and replacing wiring/plugs, I've solved my problem now, fingers crossed.

Cheers guys. I know that one of the earths has gone in the bay when doing the coolant so will deffo check that first. If not i'll then gone on to check the headlight wiring loom :)

Will report back in a bizzle!

Awesome! It was the 2 earth cables that had sheared off near the head.

5 minute fix, loves it!
