any idea how i can un lock the radio if i dont have the code?? i pulled a fuse, put it back then the radio starts saying "safe"
i really miss the music!! :cry: :cry:

A quick trip to VW and they will sort you out, free too :)

just try turning it on mine said safe turned it on and all was fine as was the gfs polo last week :smiley:

Lol this happened to me a few weeks ago as bob says a trip to vw and they will get the code far u for free

If it's the one that came std with the car then it will do it automaticaly.....just leave it a few hrs :wink:

Not always, mine didn't. It's worth going to VW. Takes minutes, it's free, and they tell you what it is for future reference!

thanks everyone, ur all amazing!! it has not managed to re code itself yet, so trip to vw tomorrow i think! i got the impression when speaking to vw that i would be charged but if its free, im already there !! :grin:

Well i spoke to vw today to get them to give me the code for my radio and its gonna cost £25. Where did you all get it done free ? Can vag com recode a radio

I just went into my closest VW garage and said I didn't know the code. They sat me down, free drinks etc, then 15 minutes later came back with the code, no charge.

Try your next nearest dealer via telephone :)

alright jonny pm me the radio number off the back of the radio starting vwz1z and aslo your chassis number and i will sort the code for you asap.

i got mine done at guildford vw for free. apparentley the earliest radios dont re code themselves! :shocked:

all you need to do is look in the radio manual which should be in your glove compartment it will give you step by step instruction on how to bring it back to life so to speak

The first time yeah. But a few months ago I had to disconnect the battery to do some stuff. Once finished the stereo wouldn't work at all, even after a couple of days.

Early golfs didnt store the radio code in the ecu
