If you have the money the ED30 is clearly the car to go for as it has the big tubby and 30bhp mroe as standard. Also I think the colour coded looks better although Im a bit of a Monza whore and prefer them.

obviously depends on your budget mate i would have loved a ed30 but couldnt quite stretch to it so bought a 2006 3dr silver gti and am more than pleased with it and as said the monza's do look very tidy on them and you could always go for a nice spec gti and coulour code the rear lower bumper and get a revo remap and wouldnt be much different to the ed30 by then apart from the dollar you save obviously, whats your budget is the question

^ very much what he said.

My GTI will be quicker than an ED30 although I have spent a bit on performance mods (although considerably less than the extra cost of an ED30). Colour code to do a proper job is expensive, I looked into it an soon gave up as it was just too much for what you are actually getting. If I had the extra money in the first place Id have bought an ED30 and done the same mods and been even quicker lol :D

At the end of the day it comes down to your budget - if you can afford the £15k for a decent ed30, then you should go for it. They are more tuneable and come with what you want as standard i.e. colour coding.

If you start comparing the price of a 55 plate gti vs. an 07 plate ed30 then there's bound to be a difference in price, however if you compare like for like then it's not as much as you think, especially when you consider that the money you might spend tuning/customising a gti won't add any value, when it comes to resale.

edition 30 all the way, i use to have a r32 mk5 and the edition 30 is much better. the only gripe are the brakes which are hopless.
if you buy a gti 200 ps you will always wish you had got a ed30.

TBH with you guys, Im a bit of an eye candy whore!!!
Ive been known to buy things for looks more then anything else!
To me, the ED30 looked nicer, with its colour coding etc, and I liked the interior part leather etc as well. Initially I loved the Monza's and thought of selling the Pescaras and buying the 18" Monza's instead - but when I saw the Pescara's in teh flesh I realised how good they look ;)
The fact that it came with extra ponies and a K04 engine was a bonus for me, and I dont feel the need for a remap at any point soon since its plenty of power for me............well for now anyways ;)

You dont buy a car every day! If you can stretch to the ED30 go for it - you can pick up some bargains at around £16k now. However, make sure you dont skint yourself so much that you can afford to run the thing! If so, the GTI with a remap is just as fast, if not faster, then a stock ED30 anyways.
Go by what your budget can stretch to - comfortably!

Thing is, unless you are moving from an ED30 to a GTI you are not going to be dissapointed.  The standard GTI is still an awesome machine.  If the extra 30 bhp is important you can remap.  There is an argument that as the GTI has a smaller turbo, it spins up faster and is slightly quicker of the mark.  Once its big brother gets its breath together, the ED30 is of course faster but it does make the GTI a little easier to drive around town.

If you have the money for an ED30 deff go for it.  I don't know how you're paying for it but if like me then yes its a big one off purchase but the money comes out once a month!  I'll buck the trend and say its not worth stretching yourself for a car.  If the ed30 will be a big stretch, go for the GTI, it wont be a dissapointment.  And if you do get dissapointed, there are options for when that happens.

Just get what you fancy mate, whether your rear valance is colour coded or not does not make any difference in life.

just get what you like to drive, or like the look of

After many years of cars like M3's etc i am not disappointed with my gti in any way.

3 years in and have no plans to change it especially in its rare laser blue guise. Only seen another 1 in the area

ED30 but they are just too expensive still

Grab yourself some ED30 mouldings and get em sprayed rather than the colour coding route...i had to laugh the other day when an Ibiza tried to race (old 8v) and he said he thought mine was a replica as it wasn't colour coded..he thought i was a cheap skate :embarassed:

Dont agree with the quote ''if you buy a gti 200 ps you will always wish you had got a ed30''.
Soon as I saw my 3Door Candy white Gti I fell in love with it! Practicaly the same car but more expensive!
Maybe the R32 but couldnt afford the price! I think myself lucky driving a Gti!

I test drove one the other day, great drive, not sure about the interior though, nice idea with the tire treads on the seats but not really my taste, alloys are a bit odd too, gimme the ed30 ones any day.
