Title: 8v gearbox ratio on another engine?
Post by: WYATT on 14 April 2009, 22:09
This isnt a thread about 8v VS 16v , just wondering if anyone has put a 8v box with a 16v lump ?

Does it work i mean the actual drive"ability i have read into the 8v vs 16v and i mainly see people bigging up the 16v for its top end speed. So the extra BHP of a 16v engine but the box of an 8v would be great for around local roads wouldnt it ?

gears 1-4 are the same     5th is actualy lower ratio on thre 16v box (  to takeadvantage of the engines higher reving nature to get higher top speed )

as above, early 8v up to ACD code and 16v 2y box same 1-4, except 5th on the 16v box is shorter. if you put an 8v box on a 16v you get more relaxed revs in 5th, and theoretically a higher top speed. later 8v AUG boxes also have a taller 2nd

Near enough the exact info I've been looking for :)

Car I just bought has a 8v box on a 16v engine, I think this was just used so they wouldn't have to change over the Gear Selector system??

on a std kr 16v top speed is lower with an 8v box,   with tweeked 2.0  16v they go quicker with 8v box
