Hi all,
New to the forum, only found out it existed minutes ago, looks excellent!
Ive been looking into buying a mk4 gti 1.8 turbo to replace my 05 plate fiesta zetec S.
Could anyone give me any pointers where to get a good one from? Im looking to buy a 3 door but the only ones I am coming across tend to have a high mileage. Im intending getting a standard one for hopefully under 4k.
Help would be appreciated!
Thanks, Stu.

Hello and welcome.
Are you looking to p/x then?
usual places to look. ebay, autotrader, pistonheads, classifieds.
good luck.

Thanks for the link to the buyers guide!
My car is getting traded in to the garage this weekend so im just starting from scratch again.
I have been looking constant for the past week or so on the usual sites etc but im finding it hard to get one with a reasonably low mileage :undecided:, I am leaving myself open to what colour to go for just now but I have seen a couple of metallic grey mk4s that I think I like, is this a rare colour to get one in?
Thanks again,
Stu.

Yeah you dont see many in the met gray TBH
-
you're forgetting that the MKIV is over 10 years old now!
what do you class as reasonably low mileage?? i bought mine with 56K on the clock which at the time i though was a little high but i'm on 98.5K now without any major problems
metallic gray is a fairly rare colour - most are silver or black
Indigo Blue FTW though
-
I think I was classing round about 100k a high mileage?
Im not that clued up on these engines etc yet though so is that kind of mileage not much of an issue?
I got the impression that the gray ones were rare , Im sure iv came across a metallic red one when iv been looking? Do i have a better chance with this?
Thanks yet again,
Stu.

as long as its got as much service history as possible and all the relevant important bits like cambelts, water pump has been changed then no; such mileages arent really an issue
test drive as many as you can though to get a good feel for how the car performs - a slight problem can hinder the experience and also be costly to put right!
-
Indigo blue FTW for sure!
The are alot for sale at the minute due to running costs increasing for all car users.... so the price should come down.
1.8T you wont regret it!!
-
You can buy mine if you want
-
Put it this way. For an average of 12k a year your looking at a car that has done 96k and is 8 years old which has done which will be roughly a 2001 model.
-
If I was to get one I reckon I would try and get below 70k miles.
Just to give me a rough idea, could anyone give an estimation of the price to get a completely standard 1.8T to 200bhp?
Sorry for all the questions!
Stu.

If you get a none AGU engine, you can do it for about £200 give or take :)
-
Yeah an AUM or AUQ will remap to over 200BHP and you'll have change left from £200.
-
yeah £200 is a bargin and really makes the car what it should be in the first place, sayign that once you start with one thing you will find a million anad one things you want to do! lol im not sure where you are based but i found a few for my mate as he was looking what is your budget?

I brought mine with 62k on mate but are prob getting quite rare now below 70k. Try and get one with the AUM engine as they respond well to tuning. Ive sold mine now but they are good motors if you get a good one thats been serviced etc
-
depends what your budget is realy.
ive just recently brought a 1.8T in silver on a Y (2001) with 37000 miles witha FSH.
but i did pay £4700 for it :undecided:
