Title: Thinking about swapping for a Mk1
Post by: DubFan on 27 July 2004, 14:42
I'm thinking about a swapping my Mk2 Valver for Mk1.
Obviously I'd love a Mk1 GTI, but I may have to teach my girlfriend to drive, in which case I may need a smaller engined car (which will also help with fuel efficiency in London).

I'm thinking about a Mk1 Driver 1.3 or perhaps I could get away with a 1.5 GL.

Any thoughts, things to watch out for on those engines, what to avoid?

Anything that can be done to make them quicker, better ride, webbers, shocks, brakes, etc?

Get a slightly tatty one, then once the g/f has learnt (teach her well - it will have its rewards) it becomes a project!  :D

I can't really afford to get a project car, which is a shame.

Does anyone know what insurance group a Mk1 1.3 Driver or 1.5 GX/GL is?

Elephant insurance says I need a car in group 10 or below to insure a learner driver. :(
