Will the VR Bolt straight to the subframe in my 8v gti? Or do they differ?
Same for drive shafts? is there a difference.
Cheers
Mike

I believe both are different.
-
Hmmmm interesting. Thought the drive shafts might be, but not the sub frame.
-
Just checked vagcat, looks like the subframe is the same (1H0199315AA) however engine carrier is different.
VR6 : 1H0199200P
GTI : 1H0199200N
Shows lots of different part numbers for the drave shafts so I think they may be different.
-
Engine carrier is 1a.

Cheers! Good info there.
Might have to change the carrier then. Got a mate breaking a VR, so i can swap it from there.
Thinking about fitting a solid mount too? thoughts?
Going to be collecting the parts for the conversion over the next few months, and fit it with a very very handy mate towards the end of summer.

Fair enough, my mate just fitted one to his 8v mk2, rates them, but i have enough vibration as it is.
Might not be a good idea.

I would not use one but its your choice.

subframe is compatable iirc frount crossmember diffrent
soild frount mounts are bad unless both rear mounts are good the bracket on the frount mount will snap at a later date
-
So it should fit onto my 8v Subframe then? No need to find extra parts.

Not sure I still think the engine carrier is different.

looking at vag-cat, rear subframes are the same on all MK3s. The front subframer has 2 part numbers, one listed for all models including the VR6, and another seperate one for the VR6. Doesnt say what the difference is:
(1) 1H0199200P - engine carrier with rubber mounting
/ ABF,AAA,ADZ, AEA,ADY,AEK, ABU,2E,AEP, AAC, diesel eng.: 1Y,AAZ,1Z
(1) 1H0199200N - engine carrier with rubber mounting
/ AAA
-
The carrier is the same but the "Bonded rubber mounting" is different.

So the differnece is just the mount?
-
like i say, according to etka there is a front subframe that is common to all models, and another that is VR specific but it doesnt say why. so yes with an engine mount swap it'll fit your subframe unless there is something we missed. trouble is i cant get to etak/etos at the moment so I'm relying on vag-cat which is quite hard to make out some times
-
Aha! I finally got ETOS back up and I can now see the 1H0199200P is not listed for the VR6, 1H0199200N is the correct VR6 part number.
Cant tell you whats different about it though, might just be it has some kind of balance weight on it or something. Looking at the ETKA diagram posted by 8v8v, you can see part #7 is only listed for the VR6, so this could be the reason for it. You might be able to chuck the VR on a normal MK3 front engine mount though, but Id assume the limit stop is there to prevent the engine lifting up too much so its probably a good idea to use the correct front subframe.

Cheers for all this info.
Will get hold of a subframe and VR engine mount. And if i need it, i need it i suppose. Just incase.
But will get new mounts obvs when i fit it.
Cheers again :D
