After what seems like an eternity, the prodigal young man returns to the stage for which he was born; the world stage.
I have been keeping my head down due to the immensely high level work (cough) I have been involved in with University. However, I recently took time out of my hectic schedule to organise some car pornography for the avid fan.
The GTI on show here is non other than my very own 58 plate Pirelli which as can be seen is feast for the optic senses. Magazines the world over have been scrambling for the vehicle to appear on their front covers.
Performance VW magazine recently described it as “the perfect mix of OEM and owner designed aestheticsâ€. Whilst Ultra VW magazine were “enthused†by the performance on tap and “delighted†at the choice of spec. However, I think it was Evo who really summed it up when they concluded that “this is quite possibly the best example of a Mk5 GTI in existence today!â€
I am therefore delighted to bring you the pictures that tell the ultimate story of sacrifice and victory!
I can’t claim to take credit for being the photographer; however I am sure it was only by my inspiration behind the lens that helped capture the magnificence of this beast in its wild and natural habitat!
Enough with the pre-amble bant:

Lovely pics and a good write up
Like the CF front mask too
-
Not a fan of the pirelli, seats and yellow stitching look  Wheels look out of place too.
Carbon front looks lovely though
-
Nice car - great pics! :)
Why has the photographer focussed on your Adam's Apple in the last pic?
Dan :)

Looking goooood, cant wait to get back on the road, 698 hours left of my ban
-
would have to agree with jules v6 on that one mate never knew alot about the pirelli until recently but as said not into the tacky yellow stitching and the wheels look awful, really think the monza's look so much better, the carbon on the front looks ok tho i have a normal 2006 gti myself and the only other mk5 id consider if i had the spare cash is the ed30 in grey = sexual

Well steady ... the yellow stitching is no more 'tacky' than the red of the ED30, and to say the wheels look aweful is frankly woefully wide of the mark! You may not like them, but to say they're aweful is a ridiculous statement!
A 'normal 2006 GTI' LOL

very nice awesome really liking the gti pirelli edition :afro:

You get far too defensive mate, people are entitled to their opinions.
If they dont like it, they dont like it simple as that...its your car you love it, does it really matter what other think or say??
ETTO as always.
-
I can vouch for the fact that the car looks much better in real life - and I'm sure those that have seen it in real life will agree.
The numberplate I'll agree looks very lost in those photos - merely due to the fact that it is a big white square in the middle of the photo. In real life, when you can actually see the numbers it does look pretty good. People say that my number plate looks gash where it is (I agree entirely), but i think leaving the front mask black, or carbon in this instance changes the whole front end of the GTI and makes it look superb - and really detracts the eye from the numberplate location.
We all know the specifications of the Pirelli..................yellow stitching, special edtn. wheels, different seats etc etc etc, so telling him that they make it look gash isn't exactly 'constructive' and 'helpful'.... Why not just comment on something else, or just not comment at all!
ETTO, IMO blah blah blah....everyone is entitled to their own point of view i completely agree, but there's a line when a point of view can be phrased and worded to become an insult...! That comment isn't so much directed at this thread because in all honesty there's only been one stupid comment here so far, but just a general observation.
Great pics mate, I'm looking forward to when the serious modifying begins soon
-
Can't get my head round that front no plate :undecided:.

Now, now Handbags ladies.
A nice series of pics. But as Edition30 says ETTO. Now as regards to the red stitching, they have now used it on the MKVI GTI  . But now its spread from the gear selector, steering wheel and seats to the armrest.

One thing, dont forget to clean your glass next time
-
that front number plate looks a bit crap.
each to their own.
-
I dont like the front number plate either TBH. Looks out of place at the side.
Also dont like the alloys - and yes Ive seen them up close. Had a Pirelli next to me a few weeks back when I had my previous car, and didnt think much of them. Much prefer my Pescara's ;)
The car itself is very nice though. Dont like your first few shots of a dirty looking car, but your pics after that are pretty nice! Like the way you set the lighting for the pic of the rear window with the golfgti.co.uk sticker on - looks great ;)
Still chuffed with my Grey ED30 though. If I went for a Pirelli I would have ended up changing the alloys, and they are a main part that make the Pirelli what it is, hence the reason why I didnt go for it.
-
I realy like the pirelli!! Didnt really stand out much when looking at the spec sheet, but having seen one on real life they do look very
Not sure about the no. plate... but that aside very very nice!!
-
yep lol a normal 2006 gti pirelli p but i paid half the amount you probably did and never got all the tacky yellow and sh!te wheels and with a nice revo re-map it does me fine bud and as said earlier in thread ed30 is miles ahead in all aspects- easily, the red stitch looks  along with the rest of the car really just what you would expect from a 20k plus motor
-
what a b!tchy section this has turned into :undecided:
-
Very nice.
Not 100% sure on the numberplate.
I think the Pirreli alloys are better than the Pescara's :lipsrsealed:
Monza II's FTW however.
I even like the seats! I prefer red stitching to the yellow though....
But all in all I'd happily swap!

yeh i do prefer the monzas but obv weren't an option and theres no point me buying a set aftermarket given its a special edition. I'll get some BBS CHs in black at some point!
-
I'm not a fan of the parelli but....Ouch some harsh comments for the blokes pride n joy!! :lipsrsealed:
-
From seeing a pirreli in the flesh i wasn't convinced but i like what you have done to yours.
The carbon front and black badges have given me food for thought as i didnt think carbon would work on black, yours has changed my opinion.
I wouldnt get CHs, id keep the Pirrelis and get them diamond cut with anthracite inserts (if you know what i mean)
Nice mate really nice

I like the pirelli alloys as they are.
I also think the Pirelli will hold its value much better a few years down the line than the ed30 (and the normal gti obviously) as its much more exclusive

Its not just exclusivity that holds a cars value but demand. It wont have a high enough demand as it wasnt better than the ED30, so came out without anyone really noticing. Im sure it will hold better than the standard gti, but i cant see it being worth as much as the ED30 of the mk5 or the Anni of the mk4.
At the end of the day he loves his car so our opinions dont mean sh!t. Im allowed to dislike it and he could hate my R32, ill still be grinning like a retard while i drive it about though
-
Interesting comments here.
The Mk 5 GTI is without a doubt the best GTI ever built and both the Ed30 and Pirelli variants have been produced to enhance the marque and raise extra revenue for VW.
Some like and some don't. I personally don't like the Pirelli and wonder why VW ever released it in the UK market (money methinks  and maybe the individual has been sacked given the current economic climate). I don't covet the Ed30 either, but if i had the choice, I'd go for a R32 without question.
Not everbody would choose this option but it's a democracy and we're all different, with individual budgets and opinions. Who's to say the Pirelli won't become a collectors item in the future but then again...............................................................

Wasnt the Pirelli released after someone caught on to the fact that they had over sold the ED30???
Seemed like a simple name/cosmetic change to avoid looking stupid :lipsrsealed:
-
Its nice man. Good shots an its a nice car, i like the random bits on a pirrelli (stitching an that) and the wheels are distinctive, meaning its quite easy to distinguish from a GTi or a ED30.
As far as resale an demand go, who gives a sh!t, drive it!
But it is rather exclusive, they didnt sell many corrado storms, no one wanted or could afford them then, i think this car might be the same
-
I think it looks mint  I wasn;t a fan of the number plate when you first did it but seeing a lot more pics I actually think it works ok.
Awesome pics too.
-
Great Pics mate, enjoy your car, it looks cool.
-
There's a bit o history behind the Pirelli as well isn't there? I know there wasn't a pirelli version of the mk4 but there were of other mk's?
-
nice car, still not keen on wheels tho but i prefer the interor over the ed30
-
Love the car, very nice mate. Not too keen on the number plate position tho.

The history that I recall was of the Pirelli alloys on the Mk 2
Bit of a long shot now to stretch that out and I reckon R32 is spot on with tapping into demand that the (so called) elite Ed30 Limited Edition was way over produced
Bit too limited for my taste but given that it is limited it may well sell on for a premium over the Ed30 - strange logic

The pirelli HAS history more than the above poster said.
The pirelli edition was a limited edition run out model of the mk1 GTI in europe in late 1983 early 1984. Its very collectable. The UK got a similar model of a run of 1000 called the Campaign. (I own one and have the official letter, sales receipt etc (its even in the small ava pic on the left)). There are slight differences between the Campaign and the Pirelli mk1's.
But at the time importing from Germany was very common due to the exchange rate and so alot of factory speced ordered Pirellis were built to UK Campaign specs so theres a few shall we say 'discussions' in the mk1 world about what is a genuine campaign model and whats a pirelli import.
Basically (more or less) the Pirellis were the same as the campaign's but in 'euro standard spec' got colour coded bumpers and wheel arches.
The poster above, The first early mk2 GTI's got a similar Pirelli alloy but they are not the same as the mk1's alloys the letter P's are smaller as the gap between the P's is bigger due to the extra weight of the mk2.
Heres a couple of photos.
First pic is a UK MK1 GTI Campaign.

Yeah they halted production as it just went on and on. Then sent everyone a plaque with a number on some two years down the line!!!
I prefer the Pirelli to the Ed30 personally and as there isn't so many of them, I think they will hold there money more.
If I bought one though, I would leave it as it left the factory as it is it's uniqueness that makes it what it is...

Thanks Snoopy for the re-education
I now recall the Mk I GTI Pirelli Edition and I coveted this car when I was younger. I had a Mk II GTI with Pirelli alloys and loved it
Glad to know they are a few of them left and being put to good use. Important we respect and remember what made the GTI a great car :smug:

I hadn't seen those pictures, they look cool together!
I wonder why VW never offered the UK Pirelli in Yellow like they did on the continent? I'd have probably gone for yellow had it been an option.
I'd love to drive a mk1 gti and even a mk2 gti to see what all the fuss is about. Iv just got no idea of how it would be!
