Title: 1.8 16v KR Starting troubles
Post by: Andy25 on 13 April 2009, 19:11
Hi peeps,

I'm asking on behalf of my bro who has a corrado 16v, basically one day it just wouldn't start so we started eliminating things replacing his coil, ht leads, dizzy cap and rotor arm. It is turning but it just wont fire, we took the king lead off and turned it over and we only got 1 spark when he released the key. We had multimeter on the live for the coil and it was delivering 8 volts to the coil any ideas because we are stumped!!! Also the central locking has now stopped working....... soooo frustrating!!!!!!

Cheers

Andy

try your ignition control module which is near your ecu, they only last 75000 miles ish. Its a small black unit mounted on a heat sink.

8v is a bit low, check the ign switch and wiring.  what was the voltage at the battery

unless its failed in some way to cause a massive voltage drain that wont be the problem, but i suppose its easy enough to swap on another. a quick n dirty test to see if the low voltage to coil is a problem, run a wire from battery direct to 15 side of coil.  if it works you need to figure out why you only have 8v to coil, if it doesnt look elsewhere

get you or your brother to turn it over, and have someone rotating the dizzy. It's more than likely just fallen out of the correct timing position, then you need to drive it carefully to somewhere where they can set it up properly. (rolling road is best)
