I only have one key for my M plated 1994 Golf Cabrio (mk3) and after loosing the only set I have yesterday for an hour or two I best get some sorted.
The one I have has a press button in the middle I think it is for a light which doesn't seem to work.
Is it a special key I need or can I go anywhere to get it done?
Not sure if it has an immobiliser or not. The car is totally original from the factory except for the wheels.
-
I have heard that the key cutters call simpsons can normally do them with the immobiliser for £25ish.
I only have 1 key so need to do the same at some point!
-
I'm not sure it has an immobiliser? How can you tell?
-
Pass but the key cutters will probably tell you if you go to the right one.
Obviously dealers should be able to help too but probably twice the price!
-
I own a '96 CL TDI and the key has a small, black rectangular shaped immobilser chip inside, in the bottom corner.
Methinks that if your key is the same, you do indeed have an immobiliser!
-
most key cutters will do it, £25 seems a bit steep, im sure mine was about half that, but make sure it is a chip key.
-
If it is a non immob key you can get one cut for a fiver but your looking at around £25 and up for one with an immob chip.

Gonna go an get a second one done up for myself then, will they enclose it in a VW casing too? :P

No mine was just a standard looking key but I only needed it to get into the boot if the alarm went down.
-
If you want a vw key then vw is the place (with there prices!) but if you dont mind a second std key then simpsons is fine (£20 for mine with code!)
-
I don't really mind if the second key isn't a VW one, it would just be a backup, anyway, it's just a standard key, no immobilizer or anything.
-
simpsons for £20 with a code or less without....ideal spare

Tbh, you can just get the ECU de-imobolised. Then you wont have this problem ;)

Timpsons in Dartford came up trumps for £30, coded & cut. Although the first time he coded it correctly, but then cut a different key (a spare one I have, but no idea what it's for). Anyway they changed it hassle free for me and checked the other spare which is also coded. So someone I have a spare key with immobiliser code for your car. New key is really stiff, but it is only a spare afterall, so not an issue.
Beadles VW, were not very helpful to be honest and don't cut key apparently.
