Does anyone know how many fins the turbo should have and will it bolt strate onto a AGU engine.
from what i have read it should bolt on no problems. The manifold holes are a ml out and the cat holes are a ml out :(
I am now carless till i can get a new turbo DOH!

If it don't fit send it back. Although in the info it do sent state what vw it is for
-
i though the k04-001 was the same across the board. is the manifold diffrent on the k03s?
-
That should fit mate.
Over the last few days i have looked at endless turbos and that is the one i am going to be going for as it should fit strait on.
Does it have KKK branding on it? If so is it a sticker or stamped? Also does it have the VW and Audi logos somewhere on the Turbo?
-
my understanding on the fitting a K04 is that it should fit straight onto the mainfold but you will need new water lines?
What holes don't line up?
-
manifold and CAT.
I have had another look at it. It seems that the front of the turbo is gunuine but the rear is a fake cast.
As the plate says a k03 and the really old type. It has been rebuild with the k04 parts but the rear is a fake USA jobbe. so it looks genuine to the eye.
The manifold holes are a 2mill out, so you just cant get the last screw in! The cat holes are the same.
I sat my dead k03s next to it and the cast is so poor on the k04 and very clean job on the k03
Think the ebayer is selling fakes with a genuine front :(
The water pipe mounting hole does not line up with the screw and the base holder of the turbo is wider than on the k03s so does not fit over the top :(

So all in all it doesnt sounds like a very succesfull copy at all then! It would be interesting to get a genuine one next to it to compare.
What car was originally fitted with a k04-001? Does anyone know? Because im not entirely sure if it isnt just a mixture of K04 and K03 bits anyway?
What mods are you running MaXXeH and what engine is it? Also How hard are you finding it getting to the turbo? Are you doing everything while the engine is still in place. Sorry to ask so many questions but what you are doing is exactly what i want to be doing in the next few weeks.
Cheers, Richard

it is a bit of a pig, remove all pipes (water/oil/air) then remove manifold/ cat nuts and slide it out. took me 3hs to remove on my own.
I am getting a refund and buying a new one for backdraft.
The k04-001 was a upgrade turbo and was never put on any car as standed.
I have a AGU, forge IC, Forge DV, R32 DSG intake, Full miltek system.

How much are you going to have to pay for the new one if you dont mind me asking?
You will have to let me know how it is and what you think of it when you get the new turbo fitted. Have you had any rolling roads with your standard turbo? Would be good to see a comparison.
And if you need an extra pair of hands i live in Chislehurst, Kent. so not a million miles away from you.
-
Just got a new one from backdraft cost 800, but wanted a new turbo. you can come down and play bav.
-
Woah 800 sheets. Be worth it tho big smile
-
yea cost a lot but u cant get second hand ones but just fakes!!
I put it next to the fake and it is mad how much is diffrent it is. Is a joke. In has a larger manifold/ outlet and is 50% lighter on the genuine turbo.
