Title: dechroming by dsg logo
Post by: No Golf Clubs at all on 13 April 2009, 07:47
Out of warranty.

Just felt a little roughness at the end of my knob.... :shocked a closer examination shows a the tiniest of blemishes in the "chrome". I can see the plastic underneath. I think over time it may get shabby, I don't like shabby

Pics will follow but no camera just now, it's on holiday with the mrs to Manhatten.

Is it possible to replace just the knob part of the DSG shifter or is it a whole stick replacement at some wallet hurting cost?

Not the same but my handbrake button is dechroming also.  Started to feel a bit rough and looked down to see dull plastic.  Can i replace just the button????

Cheers

Thanks for the linky....£275 plus vat! Jeez! Looks like it's a easy self fit though, think I'll be looking on the bay or at the breakers. Or, just learn to live with the slight imprefection at the bell end of my knob

IIRC, that was a price in $......

Not that much difference though :(

If replacing, then go for one of these : -

i have the odd one going for 50 notes on fleabay. it's quite easy to replace too. Just a trim removal plastic wedgy thing and some torx screws. unplug the old one, plug in the new one, screw in and click back into place. did see a tutorial somewhere and if i find it i'll post the link.

Edit: I have seen the odd one going for 50 notes on fleabay.

....How about removing the plastic wedgy thingy and wrapping it in carbonskin vinyl?

[Hurdy? You reading this, mate?]

Great if you can find that linky, bobo :afro:

searched high and low for the tutorial. I remember it had something to do with installing a silver ashtray lid and the guy had to remove the dsg gear stick to get access to the ashtray assembly. Sorry

Found it!

To change the DSG gear stick lever assembly it needs to be in D or S mode and then switch off the engine to remove it.

Whew.

My understanding is that you CAN replace just the knob. But I can't find anything on where to get one :(

Best of luck though :)
