Stupidly whilst I was working as a driver using company courtesy vehicles for private use, I left my car to rot on the driveway! heres what she failed on
Offside rear reg number plate light not working < minor i know!
Both front tyres foul part of the vehicle (Tyres scrub the wheel arches) yet there 205/50R15s can i use wheel spacers (ive got to measure the gap to see if they will fit or pretrude the wheel arch) Im stumped as to why standard wheels are scrubbing on a standard Golf ??????????????
ABS brake light came on, on route to MOT station (ABS sensor fault? apparently)
Someones chavved one of my rear wheel bolts off my car (which the MOT station failed to notice aswell)
And a list as long as your arm for ADVISORYS!!!
rear brake discs slightly pitted (Should have hacked the brakes on the way to MOT station, but was sh*t scared driving a car with no MOT / TAX and having sat on the driveway for the last 8 months, I didnt know whether to trust her like I used to just yet) I didnt want to over work the brakes and breakdown on route to the MOT having no TAX would have caused me ALOT more problems.
Centre front brake pipe slightly corroded (under heat sheild)
Both rear wheel bearings have play.
Corrosion on Bulkhead not excessive
Battery Insecure
Coolant leak
Oil leak
Offside inner driveshaft gaitor split
Four brake pipes connected to ABS pump are corroded
front power steering pipes are badly corroded!
10 days to fix this or I will have to pay another £45 quid!
Passed emissions test though!!!! atleast thats 1 thing thats ok on the car.
Guy @ MOT station: has it been parked near a beach or something?
me: NO why?
Guy @ MOT station: Because near enough everything is rusting through!!!
ERM. anything else wana go wrong at the moment?
Was made redundant from my last job so moneys tight, no company car any more, so im desperate for mine to be up and running. shes back outside the house on the driveway rotting again. :undecided:
What do you guys rekon???? Aside from burning it?
-
To be honest your looking a lot of work and the hardest choice has to be is it worth repairing or breaking it and buying another, unless your really attached to the car I think that is what I would do, the parts to fix are not going to be expensive but it will soon mount up.
-
me personally if your not using the car and dont want hassle of breaking I would do a little every month till all your advisories are completed and then book car in again! your choice tho mate
-
Is it flash red? If the bonnet is any good i'd be interested in that and maybe the rear bumper too
Seriously though i'd get it looked over by another person just to see how bad the corrosion is - it may not be worth saving if it's starting to go badly.
The tester might have a point about being near a beach - part of it's life might have been at a seaside town!
-
Looking at that again fixing the actual failures won't take much at all so you can get another certificate.
Advisories are just that - once you have the certificate you can take your time and fix the rest - although do get the corrosion claims checked out before spending £££
-
I thought a split driveshaft gaitor was a fail?
-
its marked down as an Advisory!
New tyres and tracking being done on Tuesday? so that should resolve the tyres fouling the wheel arches! steering wheel is completely off centre yet it goes in a straight line ive been told this is Tracking?
ABS sensor and then fix the light bulbs and give some of the advisory issues a bit of Rust away and elbow grease and she should be up and running again
-
Get using her again! dont let her rust away!
those things on the MOT were minor so get it fixed up.
good luck with it.
-
the MOT things are minor mate get them fixed
keep her alive, you got 12months 2 sort every thing else out
-
i would fix it and not take it back to same mot station.there are things that are mot failure points yet been marked as advisory.
sounds like tester bit slap harry about his job.any rust on brake pipes is a failure as is split c.v boot.
been tester for few years before going in army.
-
Fix the failures and take it back to the same place or it will fail on things that are on the advisory list

£336 later ------- 1 wheel clamp costing £260
AND ................
She passed her MOT!
Tax is on its way but until then shes sitting on my mates driveway so I dont get another wheel clamp
!!!!Bastards!!!
£260 for parking out side my front door on a side road! I only had to wait 1 more day and the car was going in for its repairs! (always the way)
turns out tracking was out completely out causing the old wheels to scrub the inner wheel arch! new CV boot, ABS sensors, 4 new tyres and 2 wheel nuts as the garage had to drill out 1 of my wheel nuts and 1 was already missing!
and a number plate light!
BROKE!!!!!! but she still passed! yey
