Title: 96 Mk 3 GTI
Post by: Jamsey428 on 12 April 2009, 03:02
Hi, I bought my first golf a few months ago. I've a 96 Gti. A few weeks ago it started coughing and spluttering. When the revs get up to 4000 it really struggles from there on and you have to change up a gear to keep going. And occasionaly when it in the lower rev range it will sputter a bit. Yet when the engine is stone cold for the first few minutes the car goes like a rocket and doesn't seem to have a problem. When it's hot and you get to 4000rpm if you start pumping the accelerator it keeps going up through the revs a bit better but still not 100%. I was just wondering I anyone had any idea as to what the problem might be?

Thanks James

Coughing sounds like Throttle body could do with a clean out.
check the spark plugs and Give the dizzy cap a clean aswell!

All these are relatively easy to do and there free aswell?
