Title: newbie needs help please!
Post by: mikemk4gti on 11 April 2009, 21:17
Hi all, just got a mk4 golf gti 1.8t today. really pleased with it apart from one thing.
We went into town today and whilst driving through traffic in first gear crawling along at tickover the car started kangarooing, dip the clutch and rev and its fine then does it again, it does it in second too below 1000 rpm. if you dip the clutch while its happening the engine runs really lumpy until you rev it. under normal driving its fine, no missfire and smmoth acceleration.
So, is this a common thing? I've done a search but couldn't find anything with the same symtoms.
Thanks in advance,
Mike.

Well, thats something for me to check tomorrow.
Seems that it could be something to do with that, thing is, the car had been in the guys garage for a week, he brought it out when i looked at it then i played with every switch and window with ign on. when we came to start the engine the battery was flat and it reset the clock and door locks kept going up and down so maybe the learnt settings of the tb had been lost?

 well i did this to mine after bad idle, mines a 1.6 btw, but the tb's were clean-ish but the breather pipes needed cleaning, did that put back and idle was perfect

Ok, so checked with vag com this morning, turns out that if i run it as an administrator it works fine.
so, i had 3 fault codes stored:

17705 PRESSURE DROP BETWEEN TURBO AND THROTTLE VALVE (CHECK DV!) P1297 - 35-10

17545 P1137 - 35-10  shareware so no description

16514  P0130 - 35-00  shareware so no description

i've cleared the codes and so far this morning it is driving perfectly, I've heard about dv problems before with other cars - could this be the problem?
